Poltava Polytechnic received a set of manuals from the NGO “Internews Ukraine”. The Methodological Fund of Gender Centre and the Department of Public Administration and Law of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” was replenished with the most up-to-date edition of the report with the results of the sociological research on knowledge, attitudes and practices concerning gender equality and gender-based violence in three regions: Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk. The most recent research data will be actively used by university teachers and students in the educational process, when writing scientific articles, abstracts, term papers, diploma and master’s theses.

The publication includes materials related to the analysis and methodology of the study “Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices on Gender Equality and Gender-Based Violence in the Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk Regions” (2024), conducted by the “Info Sapiens” research agency in cooperation with the NGO “Internews-Ukraine” with the support of the United Nations Entity For Gender Equality And The Empowerment Of Women (UN Women) within the framework of the “EU4Recovery – Strengthening Communities in Ukraine” project (EU4Recovery) with the financial support of the European Union. This study was also implemented within the framework of the project “Strengthening the capacities of women and young girls to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, conflict-related sexual violence and violence against women and girls in eastern Ukraine”, which was conducted in the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions from July 2023 to March 2024.

The authors of the publication are: Liudmyla Yuzva, Candidate of Sociological Sciences, research expert at the “Info Sapiens” research agency; Tamara Martseniuk, Candidate of Sociological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology at the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, visiting researcher; Milena Komar, project manager at NGO “Internews-Ukraine”; Valeriia Shvachko, project coordinator at NGO “Internews-Ukraine”. The publication was designed by Olena Zenchenko, NGO “Internews-Ukraine”.

In the study, the authors raised a number of topical issues, including the theoretical basis for the study of gender-based violence, the methodology of the study, and the analysis of the main results of the quantitative phase of the study as well as the results of focus group discussions with men and women, police officers, etc.

The project aims to create a platform for learning and exchange that will strengthen the capacity of communities to effectively prevent and combat gender-based violence and promote the idea of equality between women and men. The survey was conducted at the initial and final stages of the project to determine the general level of knowledge, attitudes and practices related to gender equality and gender-based violence among project participants from the targeted oblasts in order to effectively plan future activities and develop recommendations for the prevention of gender-based violence.

According to the Head of the Gender Centre of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Olena Dubynka, the materials provided by the partners will help students to understand the scope of the gender equality and gender-based violence issues more deeply and to gain qualitative knowledge on how to take into account the needs of the citizens who have experienced violence or gender discrimination.

“Thanks to the fruitful cooperation with our partners, the Gender Centre of Poltava Polytechnic effectively carries out its mission: through a series of scientific, educational and awareness raising events, it successfully debunks the existing social stereotypes, helps to overcome gender discrimination and raises the level of human rights awareness among students and schoolchildren.

We express our sincere gratitude to our partners and firmly believe that the provided sociological materials will be useful in our daily work. The Methodological Fund of Gender Centre and the specialised departments of Poltava Polytechnic is actively replenished with new and interesting materials, which means that our knowledge and professional consultations contribute to achieving joint significant results. The Gender Centre is always open to constructive dialogue, our coaches can advise on gender equality and constitutional rights,” – said the Head of the Gender Centre Olena Dubynka.

It should be recalled that the head of the Gender Centre took part in the meeting of the sub-cluster on combating gender-based violence, Poltava Polytechnic joined the “Coalition 1325 Poltava Region”, and representatives of the university took part in the Ukrainian Women’s Congress “The Path to Recovery: Women’s Participation at the Local Level”.
