This initiative is part of Poltava Polytechnic’s systematic efforts to internationalise education and support the professional development of academic staff. The visit aimed not only at the lecturer’s personal professional development but also at strengthening academic ties between the philological departments of both HEIs.
During the internship (May 25 – May 29, 2026), supervised by specialists from the Department of Linguistics, Arabic, Hebrew, Basque and East Asian Studies at the Complutense University of Madrid (Universidad Complutense de Madrid), Maryna Zhovnir, Associate Professor of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages, in cooperation with foreign colleagues, participated in events organized to demonstrate modern elements of pedagogical innovation actively implemented by Madrid educators.
Particular emphasis was placed on presenting her own research and methodology during the meetings organised by the partner university. The primary objective of this presentation was to receive feedback from the international community, expand the range of professional competencies in foreign language teaching and research through consultations with leading experts of the European educational institution, and transfer the acquired international experience to domestic students and colleagues.
Cooperation with María Matesanz del Barrio, Head of the Department of Romance Philology, Slavic Philology, and General Linguistics at the Faculty of Philology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), proved highly valuable and productive. Her research interests, including second language acquisition (SLA), lexical acquisition, and the integration of digital platforms for foreign language study, aligned closely with the pedagogical and scientific directions of both the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages and the Faculty of Philology, Psychology, and Pedagogy of Poltava Polytechnic as a whole.
The opportunity to immerse oneself in university life, rich in cultural, scientific, and social events, is worthy of special mention. The emphasis on interdisciplinarity, cross-cultural relations, and innovation contributes to the comprehensive development of students, enabling them not only to study but also to engage in extracurricular activities. Maryna Zhovnir had a unique opportunity to observe the university’s facilities, the advanced classroom equipment, state-of-the-art technologies, and the historical heritage of the Faculty of Philology.

Fruitful communication, well-coordinated work, active participation in events, and successful mastery of new methodologies have enriched the professional repertoire of the Poltava Polytechnic scholar. Potential joint research projects were also discussed with Spanish colleagues, as the Complutense University of Madrid serves as a platform for educators’ scientific and professional growth and a promising avenue for our university’s international cooperation.
Earlier, in 2024, Halyna Talovyria, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages, participated in teaching mobility under the Erasmus+ program at the Department of English Philology at the Complutense University of Madrid, while Vladlena Demikhina, a master's student in translation, studied there under the Erasmus+ ICM program during the spring semester of the 2024/2025 academic year.
Cooperation within the Erasmus+ academic staff mobility program and corporate interaction help strengthen international scientific and educational cooperation between National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and the Complutense University of Madrid, contributing to increasing the visibility of Poltava Polytechnic within the international scientific community. National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” expresses its gratitude to the partners from the Complutense University of Madrid for this productive collaboration!
