Poltava Polytechnic scientist takes part in Erasmus+ mobility programme at Complutense University of Madrid

Associate Professor of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages Halyna Talovyria became a participant of the Erasmus+ mobility programme for teachers at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). She delivered a course of lectures to philology students.

From 21 to 25 October 2024, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages Halyna Talovyria completed an internship at the Department of English Philology at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) (Spain). That was part of the Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreement concluded between National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and Complutense University of Madrid in February, 2024 on the initiative of Associate Professor of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages Halyna Talovyria.

Complutense University of Madrid is the most famous and largest university in Spain and the Spanish-speaking world. Among the advantages of Complutense University:

  • 700+ years of teaching, which has allowed to create unique methods;
  • the most powerful material, technical and cultural base (museums, galleries, architectural monuments, parks, botanical gardens, observatories, etc;)
  • undisputed international authority as an educational and research centre.

The university’s strongest fields of study are considered to be medicine, architecture, philology and literature, natural sciences, theology, and law. It has more than 74,000 students.

The Complutense University of Madrid is constantly ranked among the world’s best higher education institutions, which attracts students and scientists from all over the world. The university actively cooperates with many international organisations and other educational institutions, promoting academic exchanges and research projects. In addition, Complutense offers a wide range of programmes in English, making it accessible to international students and strengthening its position as a global centre of knowledge and education.

In the last week of October 2024, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages Halyna Talovyria visited the Spanish partner university at the invitation of the Associate Professor of the Department of English Philology at the Complutense University of Madrid, Elena Domínguez Romero, a renowned expert in the field of critical analysis of English discourse. Halyna Talovyria delivered a course of lectures on English in the Media to bachelor’s students majoring in Teacher Training, the main objective of which is to teach students to analyse the ways in which English is used in the media and its impact on shaping public opinion using examples of contemporary social and political events described in various media sources.

Moreover, on 25 October 2024, Associate Professor Halyna Talovyria attended the BORDERLITE symposium “Breaking borders. Critical and Multimodal Literacies in Rethinking Language and Literacy Education for Inclusive Citizenship”, organised by Associate Professor Elena Domínguez Romero as part of the RACISMMAFF research project (a project designed to develop a series of educational activities to combat racism in Spanish society) funded by the Spanish government.

The conference was attended by such well-known educators as: Frank Serafini, professor at Arizona State University (USA), with a report on “Semiotics, Identity and Literacy”, Carmen Herrero, professor at Manchester Metropolitan University (UK), with a report on learning about different cultures through authentic films, as well as many other well-known scholars.

“Taking part in international mobility at Complutense University of Madrid was not only an opportunity for me to share my experience with Spanish students, but also opened up new horizons in my professional development. Sharing knowledge and experience with colleagues and students from other countries emphasises the importance of international cooperation in education. I believe that such projects not only enrich our academic community, but also contribute to a more inclusive and diverse learning environment,” – comments Halyna Talovyria.

Earlier, Halyna Talovyria participated in Erasmus+ mobility programmes for teachers at the Romanian partner university Aurel Vlaicu University of Ara and the Polytechnic University of Timisoara, represented Poltava Polytechnic at the 32nd Annual Conference and Exhibition of the European Association for International Education, which took place on 13-16 September, 2022, in Barcelona, and joined the online summit “Resilience Day” dedicated to supporting Ukrainian universities in the time of war.

Recently, a new interactive sports location was opened at Poltava Polytechnic and a new student self-government was elected, the Rector of our university met with the new composition of the student parliament of Poltava Polytechnic, the regional authorities held a motivational meeting with students of Poltava Polytechnic, second-year students of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law shared their impressions of studying under the credit academic mobility programme in Vienna, a master’s student in international relations told about her experience of studying under the credit mobility programme in Wiener Neustadt (Austria), a student of our university became a silver medallist of the All-Ukrainian German Language Olympiad, and an International Training Centre for Economic Security and Financial Investigations was opened at Poltava Polytechnic, a student of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas took part in the annual scientific conference and exhibition ATCE in the United States of America, a delegation of Poltava Polytechnic attended the inauguration of the academic year at Białystok University of Technology, Poltava Polytechnic will cooperate with the leading university of Poland, Warsaw University of Technology, Honorary Professor of Białystok University of Technology Volodymyr Onyshchenko congratulated his colleagues on the beginning of the new academic year.

It should be noted that Poltava Polytechnic teachers can participate in academic mobility programmes and internships, and students of Poltava Polytechnic have the opportunity to study abroad under the grant programmes of credit academic mobility for a semester or a whole academic year at the leading universities of Austria, Greenland, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Finland, and the Czech Republic.
