The Fulbright Program, sponsored by the US government and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), is at the forefront of the international education system. Founded on the idea of interaction and mutual understanding and based on knowledge and respect for a diverse world, it has been operating successfully since 1946, now in more than 160 countries.
During the 30 years of the Program's existence in Ukraine (since 1992), more than 1,100 Ukrainians studied, did internships, and conducted research in the United States; almost 800 Americans taught in Ukrainian higher education institutions and were engaged in scientific work.
Annual competitions
For students and graduates of higher education institutions:
- Fulbright Graduate Student Program: Study at American universities for one to two years for a master's degree. The competition is open to senior students, and graduates of higher education institutions. Fields of specialization: humanities, social, exact, technical and natural sciences. The deadline for submission of documents is May 16 each year.
For young teachers and researchers:
- Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program: A nine-month internship in Ukrainian language teaching (assistance to American lecturers) at US universities/colleges. The competition is open to beginning teachers and young professionals under the age of 30 who specialize in linguistics, Ukrainian literature, translation studies, communications, journalism, American studies, and English language teaching. Applicants must have a master's or bachelor's degree at the time of awarding the scholarship (July 2023). The deadline for submission of documents is June 1, 2022.
- Fulbright Research and Development Program: Conducting research at US universities for six to nine months. Fields of specialization: humanities, social, exact, technical and natural sciences. The deadline for submission of documents is November 1 each year.
For candidates and doctors of sciences, researchers and specialists:
- Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program: Conducting research at U.S. universities, scientific and research institutions for a period of three to nine months. Fields of specialization: humanities, social, exact, technical and natural sciences. The deadline for submission of documents is October 15, 2022.
- Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program: The program is designed to promote and develop scientific and cultural collaboration in U.S. colleges and universities that are underrepresented or have little experience in international education by inviting specialists to teach, deepen training courses, and introduce new curricula, as well as establish joint research projects and academic exchanges. The American side selects candidates for the Program in accordance with the application of the American university.
For educational and research institutions of Ukraine:
- Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program: The program offers grants to American teachers, researchers, administrators, and specialists of various directions for teaching, research, and teaching/research in higher educational institutions and scientific institutions of Ukraine. Grant duration is 5-10 months.
- Fulbright Specialist Program: Invitation of specialists for a period of two to six weeks to lecture; participate in scientific programs and conferences; advise managers and administrators on education management; conduct seminars aimed at improving the skills of Ukrainian specialists; modernize educational programs and update educational materials; establish joint scientific projects and exchange programs. The deadline for submission of documents is three to four months before the scheduled date of arrival of the specialist.
