Traditionally, every year in September and early October, the memory of the former rector of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", Honored Worker of Higher Education of the USSR, academician, doctor of technical sciences, Honorary Citizen of Poltava, Professor Oleksandr Onyshchenko is honored. A memorial mini-football tournament among student teams of educational and research institutes, faculties and separate structural subdivisions of the university took place on the sports grounds of Poltava Polytechnic.
The competition was attended by 8 teams, which included students of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law, the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas, the Educational and Research Institute of Information Technology and Robotics, the Institute of Architecture, Construction and Land Management, Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, Faculty of Humanities, Poltava College of Oil and Gas, as well as the national university team of foreign students.
"We continue one of the glorious traditions of our university, honoring the man who gave a significant part of his life to Poltava Polytechnic, contributed to the establishment of a positive image and leadership positions of the university among higher education institutions in Poltava and the region – former rector of the university, Professor Oleksandr Onyshchenko. We wish the participants of the tournament success in sports confrontation, a spectacular game and bright victories!" – greeted the players and their fans, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Lina Rybalko.
Head of the Trade Union Committee of Students and Postgraduates of Poltava Polytechnic Oleksandr Drobotia wished for the most interesting game, bright moments, and a friendly atmosphere on the football field.
The captain of the team of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Oil and Gas, the winner of the previous tournament, and a student of the 201-OG group Rostyslav Yaremenko solemnly hoisted the flag of Ukraine before the competition. The competition started with a vocal composition from a student of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law Kateryna Robocha. The first game was played by teams of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law and a team of foreign students.
The football tournament lasted for three days in a row (September 14-17), and the games were held on two mini-soccer fields. The main referee was the national category arbitrator, football coach, senior lecturer at the Department of Physical Education of Poltava Polytechnic Oleksii Vorobiov. The sports confrontations were captivated by the bright game and tense moments, and fans actively supported their favorite teams.
As a result of the competition, three leaders were identified, who were awarded medals and awards of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic".

The season of autumn football games and tournaments has started!" – commented Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Lina Rybalko.
The bronze prize-winner of the tournament was the team of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of Poltava Polytechnic, the silver was won by the team of a separate structural subdivision of the university – Poltava College of Oil and Gas.
The team of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Oil and Gas became the winner of the mini-football tournament in memory of Oleksandr Onyshchenko and the holder of the Transitional Cup for the second year in a row.
It should be recalled that at the end of 2020, the Poltava Polytechnic team became one of the TOP-5 strongest student football teams in Ukraine.
