A world-class event took place in Kyiv on November 23-24 – the first SPE Eastern Europe Subsurface Conference, initiated by National Joint Stock Company “NaftoGaz of Ukraine” and personally by Sanzhar Zharkeshov, Chairman of the Kyiv SPE Section. It was attended by representatives of all leading oil and gas companies in Ukraine and the world, as well as heads of the state energy sector (there were more than 400 participants).
This is the first professional conference on geology and development in Eastern Europe, which offers to join the world’s technical experience, new concepts of field exploration and innovation in the field of optimization and increase in production. The focus was on geological field modeling, basin modeling, seismic imaging, field development management/secondary and tertiary mining methods (EOR/IOR), analysis of the digital technologies impact on production and asset life cycle management.
Working language of the conference was exclusively English.
“Poltava Polytechnic, as always, is at the epicenter of innovation! Our university is a leader in oil and gas education, represented in the program committee of the SPE Eastern Europe Subsurface Conference, along with the best experts from global companies.
I also had the honor of leading a powerful delegation. Special thanks to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the University Vitalii Hryhorovych Vitryk, who was with our delegation and who was very responsible in his public duties in every way to promoting communication with world-class oil and gas professionals.
The conference has perfect organization, high level of representation and extremely valuable information from exploration and production experts for further professional development and updates at the university!
It was a great opportunity to talk to top managers of leading companies and government agencies, who presented a vision for the development of the oil and gas industry throughout Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region. It was a great pleasure to meet in person the main figure in the Society, the President of the SPE – Kamel Ben-Naceur.
We had a successful conversation with the Chairman of the Board of National Joint Stock Company “NaftoGaz of Ukraine” Yurii Vitrenko and discussed an interesting project for the Polytechnic with Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Maksym Nemchynov and the Chairman of Ukrainian Geological Survey, partner and friend of the Polytechnic Roman Opimakh.
By the way, in October I visited the opening of the Kyiv section of SPE – a branch of the world’s largest non-profit professional association of oil and gas community – Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), initiated by National Joint Stock Company “NaftoGaz of Ukraine” and supported by Ukrainian oil and gas production and service companies. Currently, industry professionals have gathered to discuss strategically important issues of achieving an ambitious goal: to get rid of energy dependence by 2030 through import substitution. This is the first professional conference on geology and development in Eastern Europe (!), where businessmen, scientists and practitioners exchange global technical experience, new concepts of field exploration and innovations in the field of optimization and increase in production. The key message from professionals and business – it is important to have a team of like-minded people who love the company where they work and are focused on results. Strengthening corporate culture, the pursuit of a common result were in the same focus with the development of competencies (engineers (future and already working) must master a number of competencies, including STEM approaches, knowledge of economics, multidisciplinarity and teamwork), which will allow to approach production processes in a new way. All this is now implemented in our educational programs; however the process of acquiring new skills is continuous. Once again, our formula for success “science+education+business+authority” is vividly embodied! Summing up the first results and impressions, I will say the main thing – the Poltava section of SPE is to be!” – commented the rector, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
The first day of the conference was dedicated to expanding investment opportunities in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region, and the second day of the conference was dedicated to strategic issues of achieving results. Director of the college Liubov Shumska together with the representative of Schlumberger Murat Zhiyenkulov moderated the session “Reservoir Management and Maximizing Recovery”.
Among the authoritative professionals well known in Europe was Professor Branimir Tsvetkovych, Head of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology of Poltava Polytechnic, who led active discussions and shared his experience of preparing not only students but also postgraduates.
According to adviser of the Chairman of the National Joint Stock Company “NaftoGaz of Ukraine” on production issues Mavrykii Kaluhin, the conference participants, “focusing on the study of reservoirs, basin modeling, seismic data visualization, field development management, recovery optimization (methods of recovery increasing), and impact of digitalization on the recovery control as well as service life of assets”, exchanged world-class technical knowledge, new exploration concepts and innovative methods to increase efficiency and increase in production.
The student delegation was very active both during the conference and during the congress. They proudly presented their achievements and accomplishments in the format of a poster defense.
The 5th International Fuel Congress “New Energy – New Challenges” in the framework of the SPE Eastern Europe Subsurface Conference, brought together professionals and students to discuss topical issues in the oil and gas industry as well as professional growth. Andrii Buchynskyi, a master’s student of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas, won a poster competition for scientific papers.
The events were made possible by the combined efforts of the regional leader in oil and gas exploration and development National Joint Stock Company “NaftoGaz of Ukraine” and sponsorship of companies – Expert Petroleum, UNB, Schlumberger, Weatherford, Halliburton, Geo-Alliance Group and OMV Petrom, which are partners of Poltava Polytechnic.
