Polytechnic develops an algorithm for actions in emergencies

At the meeting of the Rectorate of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" the administration considered an important issue regarding the actions of participants of the educational process in emergency situations.

"It is necessary to be very responsible about security issues, especially given the danger that the whole of Ukraine is in. We are aware of this and have decided to make comprehensive preparations in the context of national processes to increase the country's defense capabilities and strengthen territorial defense. Heads of structural subdivisions are personally responsible for informing teams of scientific and pedagogical staff and students. Everyone must clearly know how to act in a given situation," – said Rector, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

The Rectorate decided to take a number of measures, in particular, the Security Department of Poltava Polytechnic together with the Department for Civil Protection of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Poltava region and the Department for Civil Protection of Poltava Regional State Administration developed an algorithm of actions of the educational process participants in case of emergencies, corrected the alert system and provided educational and scientific institutes as well as faculties with information materials.

"In order to protect the participants of the educational process from dangerous factors and the organization of life support at the university, we are implementing a set of measures. All structural subdivisions received sets of QR-codes and electronic copies for explanatory work. There are five premises on the university territory that meet the requirements of the simplest shelters. In the event of an emergency, we can evacuate 4,500 people. In the near future, we will conduct theoretical and practical classes using evacuation schemes," – explained Vice-Rector for Academic Work Andrii Zamakhin.

Students, lecturers and staff of Poltava Polytechnic will receive comprehensive information about coordinated actions in case of detection of a suspicious object on the territory of the university or outside it, by scanning special QR-codes. They are located in all classrooms, language centers, laboratories, corridors of educational campuses and at the entrances to the university.

The QR-code contains brief information about the classification, the characteristics of possible explosive objects and a memo on how to act in case of detection of a suspicious object.

It is important to know that explosive objects can be suitcases, bags and sacks, intentionally or accidentally left unattended, disguised as packages and postal items, sweets and books, toys, sports and travel equipment, stationery, popular drinks and other items.

Characteristics of a probable explosive object:
