President Zelenskyi signs an application for Ukraine’s membership in the European Union

On February 28, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed an application for Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.

Zelenskyi’s spokesman Serhii Nykyforov announced this on Facebook.

“Historical document. Application for membership in the European Union, signed by the President of Ukraine on February 28, 2022,” – wrote Nykyforov.

At the same time, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in an interview with Euronews that Ukraine belongs to the European Union and the Union wants it to join it in time.

Yes, in time they will be with us. They are one of us, and we want to accept them,” – von der Leyen was quoted as saying by BBC Ukraine.

Earlier, the EU made a historic decision to provide Ukraine with weapons, including fighter aircrafts.

It should be recalled that the course for joining NATO and the EU is enshrined at the legislative level in the Constitution of Ukraine.
