Research4Life is a project organized in a public-private partnership by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the International Labor Organization (ILO), as well as Cornell and Yale Universities, and the International Association of Scientific, Technical, and Medical Publishers.
Previously, Ukrainian institutions seeking to access resources through Research4Life had to pay. However, due to the difficult situation in Ukraine, this year it was decided to cancel the fee for Ukrainian institutions. This is stated in an official statement on the website Research4Life.
The list of available resources has been significantly expanded, more than 15 publishers have additionally opened electronic collections of books and journals for users from Ukraine, in particular, provided access to the resources of the following large publishers:
- Elsevier;
- Springer Nature;
- John Wiley & Sons;
- Taylor & Francis;
- Emerald;
- Sage Publications;
- Oxford University Press;
- Cambridge University Press;
- IOP Publishing, etc.
Currently, almost 75,000 books, more than 12,500 journals and databases are available to specialists in higher education and research institutions in Ukraine. The full list of resources that one can access can be viewed upon entering the country name and the type of institution in the appropriate fields.
For higher education institutions, research institutions, other institutions and organizations to gain access, they need to register. More than 200 Ukrainian institutions have already been registered on the platform. Representatives of the platform provide prompt consideration of applications, which continue to be actively received from Ukrainian institutions.
After confirming registration on the Research4Life platform, employees of the institution can access the content of the platform by contacting the responsible department or contact person of the institution (usually performed by library specialists) to obtain an institutional login and password, as well as instructions for creating a personal account of the platform user.
Upon having any questions (about the registration of the institution, the need for advice), one should contact the support service of the portal Research4Life.
Earlier, Elsevier provided Ukrainian scientists with free access to ScienceDirect articles.
