National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” is a flagship of European education in Ukraine and has traditionally become a platform for holding European-level events. The university hosted a meeting of students and academic staff with representatives of the European Union Advisory Mission to Ukraine.
The Mission’s activities in Ukraine are aimed at supporting the reform of Ukraine’s civilian security sector and assisting in the investigation and prosecution of international crimes.
The delegation of EUAM Ukraine was accompanied by the guests of honor at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”:
- Rolf Holmboe – Head of the Mission;
- Kent Jacobsen – Executive Advisor to the Head of Mission;
- Ove Urup-Madsen – Head of EUAM’s Mobile Unit;
- Iryna Boiko – Expert on Coordination;
- Serhii Hryvniak – Expert on General Law Enforcement.
“We are glad to welcome the Head of the European Union Advisory Mission Rolf Holmboe at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” today! It is an extremely great honour for us and it emphasizes our significant achievements in our daily educational and scientific activities.
Dear students, colleagues, we already have a very positive and successful experience of cooperation with the European Union Advisory Mission in the field of financial investigations for law enforcement. A powerful seminar organized by ARMA, ESB, SBI, SSU, NPU took place at our university, and I had the honour to thank the Head of the Civilian Security Sector Reform Mission, Rolf Holmboe, for his support of Ukraine, online, and now I am thanking him in person.
Today, it is vital to implement the standards and experience of the European Union in Ukraine. I would like to mention that Poltava Polytechnic is currently implementing a powerful project of the European Investment Bank on thermal modernization and energy efficiency, and we are almost the only university that is doing everything to create proper, safe, energy-efficient, European conditions for our students who will be rebuilding postwar Ukraine, despite the war,” – Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Economics, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko started the event.
The EUAM delegation in Ukraine arrived to Poltava in order to discuss possible areas of cooperation and implement joint projects aimed at strengthening the civilian security sector in the eastern regions of Ukraine.
European Commissioner Rolf Holmboe emphasized the importance of such meetings with Ukrainians, especially students:
“First of all, I would like to say that it is a great honour and privilege to have the opportunity to visit your university and see all of you. This is my first visit to Poltava, and I have been looking forward to this visit in order to meet you and get to know the future of Ukraine. This is also a good opportunity for me to thank you personally, Mr Rector, for your very warm welcome and for making our visit possible. It is extremely important for us to have the opportunity to travel around Ukraine, to meet with Ukrainian citizens in different parts of the country, to talk about what Europe and the European Union are, but most importantly, to be able to answer your questions, to have and maintain a dialogue and discuss the European future we see for Ukraine. We look forward to seeing Ukraine join the European family.”
In his presentation “Together We Are Europe”, Rolf Holmboe spoke about the history of the European Union, revealed the complex governance structure, Ukraine’s steps to bring it closer to the EU, and emphasized that eradicating corruption and creating a transparent judicial system would significantly help Ukraine attract investment and promote economic growth. He spoke about the opportunities available to young people in the EU as one of the top 3 most powerful economic conglomerates in the world. Mr Rolf also emphasized the importance of learning foreign languages, spoke about the benefits of studying in the European Union and the EU development concept.
Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko noted that 10 years ago National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” made strategically correct decisions, focusing on the integration into the European educational space. The introduction of English-language educational programs, creation of language centers, opportunities for students of all specialties to learn foreign languages was an important step in improving the quality of educational services, research and providing students with access to study at European partner universities. The Rector also thanked the Head of EUAM in Ukraine, Rolf Holmboe, for the European Union’s unlimited support for Ukraine in its struggle for independence and territorial integrity, and noted that Ukraine will definitely win and become a member of the European Union.
“We realize that every day that the Armed Forces of Ukraine give us is a new history of Ukraine’s fight for our independence. The fact that we spent one of these days together with the high representatives of EUAM Ukraine will be engraved in the history museum of our university. To commemorate this day, I would like to present Mr Rolf with a painting that will remind him of today’s communication with our wonderful young people, the university’s teachers. You are our friend, and we will always be glad to see you at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” next time,” – noted Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
Students of Polytechnic thanked EUAM Ukraine for the visit, talked personally with the Head of the Advisory Mission Ukraine Rolf Holmboe, asked the questions they were interested in the most and got detailed answers.
It should be recalled that EUAM Ukraine conducted a seminar for law enforcement officers on financial investigations at Poltava Polytechnic.
