“Social protection of people studying at the university is one of the priorities of the union of student and post-graduates. In the academic year of 2019-2020, the active work on protecting the rights of those studying at university was performed, in particular concerning the scholarships, encouragements for achievements, improvements of the living conditions in the dormitories, free-of-charge juridic consulting and the social support of all the student youth categories. The organization provides help for the union members who got in a difficult situation. We paid special attention to that during the lockdown,” Oleksandr Drobotia said.
The Primary Union of Students and Post-Graduates of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” is an independent non-profitable organization connecting students, basing on voluntary participation with the goal of representing, exercising and protecting the educational, social and economic rights and interests of its members. It’s governed by the union committee which includes the representatives of all the education and research institutes and faculties of the university, the heads of union bureaus. The organization is a part of the Union of Educational and Scientific Workers of Ukraine and the Association of Human Rights Student Organizations of Ukraine.
At the beginning of academic year, the union committee helps the dormitory residents receive subsidies, as that improves the social and living situation, the students save considerable amount of money on the cost of residency with keeping the comfortable conditions.
“With the university administration’s effective support, close cooperation with the campus administration, approximately 1,000 dormitory residents received subsidies in 2019-2020 academic year,” the Head of the organization reported.
The Union committee supports the initiatives of the students’ self-government, organizes and holds large-scale events, encourages various student activities both at university and in the city community life, as well as cares for the students’ free time.
“The union cooperates closely with the students’ self-government, makes for the organization of mass sport events and sport popularization, organizes productive activities for free time. In particular, we organized trips to football matches and gave tickets, encouraged active students with tickets for their achievements and so on. Many events have already become traditional; for example, every month, four years in a row, we organize the intellectual game “What? Where? When?” and the Movie Wednesday, for which the students choose movies to watch by voting on Instagram,” Oleksandr Drobotia added.
The union organized celebrations for the children of academic staff, post-graduates and workers on the New Year’s Eve with presents, the celebrations of professional holidays at university.
The members of the organization also actively participate in the program “Career Elevator”, which is about forming the personnel reserve for scientific and management field of university. Students and graduates have the possibility to be employed at university and receive guaranteed social security package.
The members of the Academic Board of the university listened and approved the report of the Head of the Students Union Committee of Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic.
“The successful and productive activity of the union is an important indicator of the social protection of the student team of Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic. I am thankful to its members and the representatives of the students’ self-government for the initiatives in organizing and holding various events, for the dutiful work. Not every university has such efficient students’ union. It should be taken into account by the enrollees when choosing the university and by the students of other higher educational institutions,” Rector, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko commented.
