The Conference of Poltava Polytechnic Staff Defines Strategic Guidelines for the New Academic Year

Before the beginning of the new 2025-2026 academic year, an extended meeting of the Staff Conference was held at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”. This is not just an annual tradition, but a platform for strategic dialogue between the University management, teachers, staff, and students.

The main stage of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” became a space for discussing the results of the University’s activities for the previous 2024-2025 academic year, as well as for determining current tasks and plans for the future.

The President of Poltava Polytechnic, Volodymyr Onyshchenko, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech: “Dear colleagues and students! Traditionally, we begin the new academic year by summarizing our work and analyzing the results of the admission campaign. But today, as Ukraine defends its independence, territorial integrity, and freedom for the fourth consecutive year, the issue of security comes to the fore and remains our top priority.

The enemy continues to mercilessly strike cities and the civilian population. However, despite all the challenges, we must fulfill our tasks with dignity, ensure the educational process, and at the same time build the future of post-war Ukraine.

We express our sincere gratitude to our Defenders and rescuers who stand guard over our safety every day. At the University, we are introducing a new tradition – to express our sincere gratitude to those people who ensure the safety of our community and the entire country. That is why we are starting this academic year under the slogan: “Safety above all else.”

Volodymyr Onyshchenko also emphasized that for the fourth consecutive year, the academic year begins with an inspection of the University's shelters. He added that without the permission of the State Emergency Service, no educational institution can begin the academic process, and there is already a certificate of readiness for the new academic year for Poltava Polytechnic, signed in accordance with all safety requirements.

The President of the Polytechnic also noted that the event was attended by the Head of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Poltava Region, PhD and Associate Professor of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering at the University, Andrii Khyzhniak. The Head of the Rescue Service gives lectures to students on safety issues and pays considerable attention to the practical training of students. As Volodymyr Onyshchenko emphasized, Poltava Polytechnic is one of the few universities where practical classes are held, during which students have the opportunity to work closely with rescuers and even work in mine-resistant suits. Taking advantage of the opportunity, the President of the Polytechnic expressed his sincere gratitude to the Head of the Directorate, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering Andrii Khyzhniak for his active support of Poltava Polytechnic’s initiatives, promotion of practical training for students, and creation of a safe educational environment. It is symbolic that the letter of gratitude from the University to the Head of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Poltava region was presented by representatives of the student self-government – the President of the Student Parliament of Poltava Polytechnic Valerii Levchenko and the First Deputy of the Student Parliament Yuliia Vovk. This confirms that young people appreciate the opportunity to learn from professionals who stand guard over safety every day.

A pleasant moment of the event was that the employees of the Polytechnic were awarded Certificates of Merit from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine for their initiative, effective cooperation, and on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day:

Anna Ageicheva – Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology, and Pedagogy;

Serhii Havryk – Acting Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas;

Anna Liashenko – Senior Lecturer at the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technologies.

The extended meeting of the Staff Conference began with a review of the agenda.

The President of Poltava Polytechnic, Volodymyr Onyshchenko, focused on the educational, scientific, and innovative potential of the University, which became a decisive factor in the successful 2025 admission campaign.

He noted that Poltava Polytechnic is a confident leader in higher education:

  • TOP-30 among 36 higher education institutions of Ukraine in the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2025 ranking of the best European universities;
  • ranked 27th in the Consolidated Ranking of Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine and confidently holds the 1st position among universities in Poltava region;
  • 29th place in the TOP 200 Ukraine 2025 university ranking and 1st place among higher education institutions in Poltava region.

And these are far from all the significant achievements of Poltava Polytechnic team that are worth being proud of. As noted by Bohdan Korobko, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Poltava Polytechnic is among the top 15 best higher education institutions in Ukraine in terms of the number of enrolled first-year students. Over 1,850 enrolled Bachelor’s Degree students! These are extraordinary achievements in today’s conditions!

In her speech, Olena Filonych, Rector of Poltava Polytechnic, paid considerable attention to the stability of the University’s financial and economic situation, even in wartime.

An important indicator of development is the implementation of the European Investment Bank’s large-scale investment project “Higher Education. Energy Efficiency,” which allows for the creation of modern infrastructure and comfortable conditions for students and teachers, as well as increasing the University’s competitiveness at the international level.

Vice-Rector for Scientific Work Olena Stepova highlighted the international and European integration activities carried out by Poltava Polytechnic. Thanks to this, new opportunities are opening up for young people in terms of academic mobility, participation in international projects, and career development in Europe.

An important topic was highlighted in his speech by Anatolii Martynenko, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work. He reported on the implementation of the University’s social policy: support for veterans, adaptation and socialization of students who defended Ukraine, as well as the implementation of First Lady Olena Zelenska’s mental health program “How are you?”, which contributes to the formation of a healthy educational environment.

The extended meeting also discussed key strategic directions for the University’s development and outlined priority tasks for the near future.

On Knowledge Day, Polytechnic President Volodymyr Onyshchenko and University Rector Olena Filonych honored those who, through their daily work and professional achievements, contribute to strengthening the authority and development of Poltava Polytechnic. Scientific and teaching staff and university employees were awarded honorary awards.

We would like to remind those who have not yet done so that they can still become students at Poltava Polytechnic – an additional session for accepting applications and documents for admission to Bachelor’s Degree programs in full-time, part-time, and distance learning formats on a contract basis has begun.
