Specialties of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology

The Department of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology is a graduate department and trains bachelors and masters in the specialty: 185 "Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology".

The training of specialists in the specialty 185 "Oil and Gas Engineering and Technologies" is carried out at the bachelor's and master's levels of higher education.

The department also has a postgraduate program in the specialty 185 "Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology".

Degree of higher education "Bachelor"

The study period is 4 years (accelerated form - 1 year 10 months).

It can hold primary positions and work under the supervision of a specialist or master. If it has production experience, it can work independently

Professional training is provided within the following disciplines:

- Obligatory : enterprise economics; information technologies in oil and gas engineering; electrical engineering and power supply; descriptive geometry, engineering and computer graphics; resistance of materials; basics of metrology, standardization and quality control; human safety; basics of ecology; theoretical mechanics; theory of machines and mechanisms; hydraulics; materials science; reservoir physics; basics of oil and gas business; thermodynamics, heat transfer and heat and power plants;

- Electives:

Block 1 (oil and gas production): materials and reagents in oil and gas production; theoretical foundations of hydrodynamic modeling; oil production technology; oil and gas field industry equipment; oil and gas well drilling; gas production technology; industrial geophysics and interpretation of research data; development and operation of oil, gas and gas condensate fields; oilfield geology; collection and preparation of oil and gas field products; chemistry of oil, gas and formation water; basics of production processes automation; theoretical foundations of phase transformations in hydrocarbon raw materials; well development; well exploration and underground workover; operation of underground gas storage facilities; theoretical foundations of hydrocarbon production stimulation; rock mechanics;

Block 2 (equipment of oil and gas industries): mechanics of machines; theory of technical systems; basics of structure theory; design of metal structures; technological basics of mechanical engineering; hoisting and transporting machines; technology of oil and gas well drilling; basics of operation technology; modeling of technological processes and structures; hydraulic machines and compressors; machines and equipment for drilling oil and gas wells; machines and equipment for oil and gas production; technical diagnostics of drilling and oil and gas equipment; installation of drilling and oil and gas equipment.

An integral part of the students' training is the educational and introductory internships, 2 technological and professional ones, which are conducted at the oil and gas sector enterprises: oil and gas production, drilling, geological exploration, as well as service enterprises (repair, installation and maintenance).

In accordance with pre-arranged agreements, students are given excursions to drilling and oilfield companies located both in Poltava region and abroad.

Master's degree in higher education

The term of study is 1.5 years after obtaining a bachelor's degree.

Professional training is provided in the following disciplines:

Safety in the industry and in emergency situations; Economics of the oil and gas complex;

Block 1 (oil and gas production): Design of oil field development; latest methods of oil and gas production stimulation; optimization of hydrocarbon production technology; design of gas and gas condensate field development; design of hydrocarbon collection and treatment systems; reliability and risks in the oil and gas industry; environmental safety of oil and gas industries and communications; alternative hydrocarbon sources and gas hydrate technologies in the oil and gas industry; geological and hydrodynamic modeling of oil and gas fields and oil and gas production processes;

Block 2 (oil and gas equipment): oilfield machines and complexes; testing of drilling and oilfield equipment; drilling machines and complexes; performance calculations of drilling and oilfield equipment; installation of drilling equipment; installation of oilfield equipment; design of drilling and oilfield equipment; basics of patent law: quality of drilling and oilfield equipment; power drive of well drilling and workover rigs; rational operation and reliability of drilling and oilfield equipment; technology of manufacturing and repair of oil and gas industry machines; basics of design and students` research work.

Main jobs and positions:

Graduates of the Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology Department work at oil and gas production enterprises, in research, design and development organizations, educational institutions (universities, colleges) of Ukrainian oil and gas profile, at production service bases, at compressor and pumping stations, main gas and oil pipelines, in departments of oil production and drilling departments, installation organizations of the oil and gas industry in engineering positions, including managers, chief and leading specialists, heads of administrations and departments.

Many graduates work in joint ventures and foreign companies in Ukraine and abroad, in particular Europe, Asia, America and Africa.
