Active student youth of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" created the Volunteer Headquarters from the first days of the war. The university administration, led by the rector, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko, comprehensively has supported humanitarian and social youth initiatives, and now, in cooperation with the local self-government bodies of the Poltava territorial community, it has attracted resources on the basis of the Volunteer Headquarters and renovated two locations – the Indomitability Point and the state-of-the-art student hub of Poltava.
The location’s capacity makes it possible to host 500 people during the day.
In case of a power outage, residents of Poltava can warm up, drink hot tea or coffee provided by volunteers – Polytechnic students, as well as rest, recharge gadgets, have an access to the Internet, and wait out an air raid. Tables, chairs, first aid kits, disposable tableware, microwaves, electric kettles, power strips, water and food supplies are available in sufficient quantities.
Families with small children and babies were taken care of separately – a room for the mother and child is equipped, where there is an opportunity to change clothes or feed the baby, and supplies of hygiene products are prepared. The facilities are adapted for people with limited mobility and there is a mechanical lift.
The point has the ability to function entirely autonomously – it is equipped with a generator and uninterrupted Internet connection via a Starlink terminal, as well as a backup autonomous heating system.
The head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Dmytro Lunin, inspected how the point was set up.
"At a time when our country is fighting for its existence, defending its independence and territorial integrity, and the opponent is stubbornly attacking energy infrastructure facilities, the role of Indomitability Points is growing. Without exaggeration, I want to note that this is the best point I have seen so far. It is the 461st out of 476 planned in the territory of the Poltava region. Their mission is to provide residents of the region with everything they need – heat, high-speed Internet, so that everyone can come, chat, and have a meaningful time.
During the war, educational institutions of the region are becoming hubs of help and support. There can be 500 people in the Indomitability Point that works in this university. There is a generator, Starlink, a ramp, three restrooms, including for people with disabilities, and an equipped corner for mothers and children. There are hygiene products, fire extinguishers, heating panels, food and water supplies. All this is for people's comfortable stay in case of need. We are sincerely grateful to the university team headed by rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko," – noted head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration Dmytro Lunin.
The space is designed for easy transformation into a student scientific and educational hub, a co-working area, and a space for youth events.
"The date of the opening of the most modern youth and student location in the city of Poltava, although painful, is also symbolic – it is a symbol of our indomitability, because the war with the russian aggressor continues, and the Ukrainian people, courageous, unconquered and indomitable, continue their own struggle on all fronts. The main task in this frantic pursuit of one's own independence, the struggle for one's own future and the future of one's children was not to break morally, to do something that would bring the common Victory closer. Such powerful centers, where you can warm yourself with human warmth, find new friends and communicate in a light, relaxed atmosphere, became the key to successful fierce resistance to a cruel opponent, even in times of constant air raids, missile threats and blackouts.
And the most interesting thing is that our Indomitability Point can easily perform a double function – transforming into a student hub, gathering young people from different corners of our cozy Poltava for an open constructive dialogue, which will generate new ideas aimed at improving the level of higher education and science of the Poltava region.
Thanks to all unconquerable colleagues and students!
Glory to Ukraine! Together to victory!" – commented rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
The Poltava Polytechnic team is confident that the University Indomitability Point will become a reliable mainstay, a zone of comfort, communication and support for all citizens, because as the motto of Poltava Polytechnic says: "Where there is unity, there is Victory!"
The Indomitability Point is located at 21 Pershotravnevyi Avenue, Poltava.
After the opening of the location, the head of the Poltava RMA, Dmytro Lunin, met with the students of the Polytechnic and talked about how the region has lived a year since the beginning of the russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine
It should be recalled that recently, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhii Shkarlet paid a working visit to Polytechnic and became the first visitor to the student hub before its official opening.
