Architect-to-be becomes a team leader of the Erasmus+ youth exchange

Art has a unique power—it can not only inspire, but also unite people of different cultures, nationalities and views. This is the idea behind the Erasmus+ youth exchange “The Power of Young Artists”. Young artists and activists from seven countries gathered to create a space for creative expression, communication and cooperation.

On 13 – 16 January 2025, during the Advance Planning Visit (APV) in Zakopane, representatives from Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Georgia, Turkey, Jordan and Bulgaria had the opportunity to work together to prepare the main stage of the project, which will take place in March 2025. In addition to organisational issues, the participants took part in conflict resolution and team-building trainings, which helped to create a trusting atmosphere before the main meeting. A 4th year student majoring in Architecture and Town Planning, Maryna Makukha, who was selected as the team leader of the Ukrainian team (from the NGO Vzayemopomich), also took part in the meeting.

She shared her impressions of the APV:

“In January, I had a great opportunity to attend the Advance Planning Visit as part of the international project “The Power of Young Artists” in Zakopane. It was a preparatory visit, during which team leaders and one participant from each country met to discuss organisational issues and draw up a programme for the main part of the project, which will take place in March.

Together we worked to make the project as efficient and comfortable as possible for all participants. In addition to planning, we had an interesting and very useful training on how to resolve conflict situations that may arise during the project. We also held a team-building event that helped us get to know each other better and become friends before the March meeting.

I absolutely loved the visit! It was not only a valuable experience for the worthy representation of the Ukrainian team in March, but also a great opportunity to meet future participants, exchange ideas and feel how powerful art can be in overcoming barriers. I look forward to meeting the teams at the main stage of the project.

“The Power of Young Artists” is more than just a creative initiative. It is an opportunity to open new horizons, build cultural bridges and change the world through art.”

Previously, Maryna Makukha had already participated in the Erasmus+ youth exchange in the French Alps and represented Poltava Polytechnic at the 28th International Conference ICAMES 2024 (International Cultural and Academic Meeting of Engineering Students) in Turkey.

Recently, students of Poltava Polytechnic shared their impressions of studying under Erasmus+ programmes at universities in Austria (Vienna and Eisenstadt), Estonia, Denmark, and Slovakia.
