Art Students Make Their Debut at the Contemporary Arts Center

An exhibition of students’ artworks opened at the Contemporary Arts Center of Poltava Polytechnic, showing pieces done in various techniques by the first-year art students. The exhibition is a sequel of the “Axle” exhibition presented within the celebration of the 90th anniversary of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", during which 27 artworks of graduates and teachers of Fine Arts Department were exhibited. The exhibition of Contemporary Arts Center will be completed with new works over the year.

Rector of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko, PhD in Pedagogy, Dean of Faculty of Humanities Anna Ageicheva, Member of the National Association of Artists of Ukraine and AICA, PhD in Art Studies, Head of Faculty of Humanities Tetiana Zinenko, and the first guests of the exhibition - academic staff and workers of our university - congratulated the artists at the opening ceremony.

“I congratulated the talented youth, future professional artists, to their artistic debut. The exhibition of students’ artworks was opened at Contemporary Arts Center of Poltava Polytechnic on February, 19. It includes examples of different artistic techniques - from still lifes and portraits to batik printing. This is a sequel to the “Axle” exhibition presented within the celebration of the 90th anniversary of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", which included works of graduates and teachers of Fine Arts Department performed in different years. It is great that the Center is active. The main idea that gave start to creating this center lied in creating comfortable conditions for continuous exhibitions of students’, teachers’ and graduates’ own works, presentations of their artistic achievements.

“Talented youth inspire me personally as a rector for new creative ideas about the development of the university, in which you, my dear students, are studying. Create unique artworks, find your style, work on self-improvements, develop your talent, realize your creative ambitions, and do not be afraid of criticism, look at every experience in a positive way! I am sure that our teachers will be able to develop your talents, and after graduating you will have the happiest memories of studying at our university! I wish you successes, inspiration and energy!” Rector of our university commented.

PhD in Pedagogy, Dean of Faculty of Humanities Anna Ageicheva also wish art students successes and a great start in their career. Head of the Faculty mentioned that one of the artists presenting their art works today, Liliia Blyzniuk, is at once an art and a philology student at our university. The second-year student of Fine Arts, Decorative Arts, Restoration is now also studying at the first year of the specialization “Philology”.

This exhibition is the first such experience for her, and she says that she started painting more after she heard about it.

“This exhibition is only the start of our professional life, and I know that we still have to study and work a lot, practice different techniques and achieve more. As for now, I could exhibit only a few of my works, but I will keep working, since the creation of every piece requires a lot of time and positive mood,” the student commented.

Working on paintings is a very individual process, from a sketch and choosing the fabric to creating the composition and the smallest details, and it takes a lot of time.

“My artworks are a result of a several month worth of hard work. For some people, creating such a piece would take up a week, for others half or a whole year. It is hard to connect numbers and art; ideas play a more important role here. Just like the ability to look at your work from the others’ perspective,” Liliia Blyzniuk added.

The future depends on the talented youth, as Mentor of the students’ exhibition, Head of Fine Arts Department of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Tetiana Zinenko said. She is happy for all the students’ successes, and she talked about her impression form her students’ works and plans for the future: “I am happy to see the students’ active and enthusiastic approach to the exhibition that we are opening today. I would like to mention that this time we have changed our approach to creating the exhibition, because I am sure that we should exhibit everything. We are showing the process of creating the pieces and the replicas of famous artworks for the first time. It is great that so many art lovers came to support us and to get inspiration. We are going to complement this exhibition in April and May this year, and welcome all the interested people to come see it!”

The guests could see the young artists’ works in various techniques and to communicate with them.

The students’ exhibition will be opened at the Contemporary Arts Center of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” till the end of May, with new works added soon.
