The state of Paraná is actively accepting refugees from Ukraine, as it is inhabited mainly by Ukrainian immigrants, the Ukrainian language is widespread and national traditions are preserved. The cooperation of Ukrainian and Brazilian scientists in partnership with the state government will be an important step in rebuilding and strengthening the Ukrainian economy in the future.
The main goal of the program is to enable scientists from Ukrainian universities to continue their research at universities in the state of Paraná for up to two years. It is expected that up to 50 scientists with a Ph.D. and who are working or have worked at Ukrainian universities to develop research projects will be included in the program. These lecturers will have the opportunity to teach and advance in skills at Paraná universities.
To participate in the program, interested scientists must submit an application of up to two pages in Ukrainian, Portuguese, or English, which would contain information about the field of research, its purpose and objectives.
Together with the application, candidates must provide a video lasting up to three minutes, explaining what they would like to work on. The video can be filmed on a mobile phone in a horizontal position so that the camera covers the person from the waist and above. The organizers ask not to make videos on the street and in places with high noise levels.
Candidates will be selected by representatives of the departments of scientific research and postgraduate studies of the universities of the state of Paraná, who will be able to host researchers. The Araucaria Foundation and General Superintendence of Science, Technology and Higher Education (SETI) will ensure the process of integration of Ukrainians into the work process.
To conduct research, scientists will receive a grant of 10 thousand reais in the category "Lecturer-Special Guest" (PVE). In addition, they will receive an allowance of 1 thousand reais for each dependent under the age of 18 and/or over 60 years. The limit will be three surcharges of 1,000 reais for each selected researcher.
In addition to the PVE grant, the Araucaria Foundation will provide the researchers and their dependents, if any, with air tickets to Brazil and back to Ukraine. The Foundation also offers free Portuguese language courses as an additional language to assist with the linguistic and cultural integration of researchers and their dependents.
