Following a call by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to stop cooperating with the aggressor state the Russian Federation and the allied Republic of Belarus, Clarivate and Elsevier, which own leading international scientific resources, proclaimed their support for Ukraine and the measures taken in response to military aggression by Russia.
“Clarivate respects and supports the rule of international law and joins the world community in condemning Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Given that the aggression against Ukraine by Russian troops continues, Clarivate has decided to immediately close its office in Russia, and in the coming weeks we will work to suspend commercial activities in the Russian Federation,” – said in its statement Clarivate, which owns information systems and intellectual resources property, including one of the world’s largest abstracts and bibliographic databases Web of Science as well as the patent information database Derwent Innovation.
In early March, the company completely suspended the evaluation for indexing in the Web of Science database of new journals published in Russia and Belarus.
Elsevier, one of the world’s largest publishers of scientific literature, said in a statement that they’ve made a decision to suspend sales of products and services in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, with the exception of certain medical databases. Elsevier owns the full-text ScienceDirect scientific literature database, Scopus (abstract and bibliographic database) as well as other electronic scientific information resources.
“Elsevier condemns Russian invasion of Ukraine and joins the call for an immediate ceasefire to protect civilians and restore peace. We support the Ukrainian people and strive to support the research and medical communities affected by the war-torn humanitarian crisis,” – said the company in its statement.
Earlier, Elsevier provided Ukrainian medical professionals with free access to electronic scientific information platforms such as ClinicalKey, Complete Anatomy and Osmosis.
Clarivate and Elsevier have also announced a decision to allocate funds in order to provide financial support for people affected by the war waged by the Russian Federation.
It should be recalled that Elsevier provides Ukrainian scientists with free access to ScienceDirect articles.
