European Commission suspends all cooperation with Russian organizations in research, science and innovation

Minister of Education and Science Serhii Shkarlet announced that in solidarity with Ukraine in the fight against Russian military aggression, the European Commission is launching a number of initiatives aimed at ending cooperation with Russian organizations in the field of research, science and innovation, along with supporting Ukrainian students and higher education institutions employees.

European Commission suspends all cooperation with Russian organizations in research, science and innovation

European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel informs that the European Commission is suspending any cooperation with Russian organizations in the field of research, science and innovation, and will not continue to conclude new contracts and agreements under the Horizon Europe program. All current projects under “Horizon Europe” and “Horizon 2020” programs, in which Russian research organizations are involved, are currently being thoroughly scrutinized.

European Commission is determined to support Ukrainian youth and educators through the following measures:

  • Mariya Gabriel requested maximum flexibility in the implementation of Erasmus+ projects, taking into account force majeure, which will allow Ukrainian beneficiaries to cancel, postpone or put off planned activities;
  • Erasmus national agencies have been instructed to assist individual participants who are currently in Ukraine or Russia and plan to travel to these countries in the near future;
  • support for Ukrainian students abroad is organized – they are offered affordable transfer options to travel abroad, provided support tailored to their needs as well as guaranteed security.

In addition, the leading trade association “DigitalEurope”, which unites more than 36,000 businesses, includes 96 corporations and 39 national trade associations from across Europe, has called for immediate cyber support for Ukraine.

It should be recalled that the European Foundation for Education has abandoned activities in Russia and the Republic of Belarus.
