Economists analyse the challenges and threats of sustainable development in the conditions of modern realities

The International Scientific and Practical Internet Conference “Sustainable Development: Challenges and Threats in the Conditions of Modern Realities” was held in the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” in a mixed format. Scientists and practitioners from different parts of the country discussed the problems of sustainable development of economic entities and the state in the conditions of modern realities as well as provided practical advice for strengthening financial.

On June 15, scientific and pedagogical staff of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” under the leadership of Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Director of the Institute Svitlana Onyshchenko held the annual International Scientific and Practical Internet Conference “Sustainable Development: Challenges and Threats in the Conditions of Modern Realities”. Due to the introduction of martial law and active hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, a large-scale scientific event with the participation of domestic and foreign partners took place in a mixed format.

More than 300 scientists from 20 scientific institutions and leading Ukrainian universities joined the active discussion around the current issues of transformation of the goals of sustainable development of business entities and the state in the war and post-war period. Foreign partners of the Poltava Polytechnic – scientists from Romania, Georgia, Poland, Latvia, Denmark, and the Czech Republic presented interesting reports and their own work in the field of international cooperation in wartime conditions, in particular within the framework of the Erasmus+ project, national economy, economic security, and sustainable development.

The large-scale scientific and educational event was opened and participants welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Work of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Olena Stepova, who emphasized the relevance of the conference topic and the importance of the national economy development in the conditions of martial law and in post-war period.

The coordinator of the international direction of activities under the Erasmus+ programmes of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation Anna Pavelieva spoke about the possibilities of deepening international cooperation in the conditions of a full-scale invasion and also shared practical cases of academic exchange of students and academic workers, which are already implemented at the university.

Professor, Head of the Department of Marketing at Alba Iulia Silvia Maican shared the experience of partnership between National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and “1 DECEMBRIE 1918” University of Alba Iulia (Romania). Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Management and Logistics of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Alina Chaikina told about the international experience of academic mobility and scientific cooperation between the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and the Avans University of Applied Sciences.

Scientists of the State Institutions “Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine” and “Institute of Economics of Environmental Use and Sustainable Development of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine” shared their achievements. Leading researcher of the Department of Sectorial Forecasts and Market Conditions, Senior Researcher, Doctor of Economic Sciences Vitalii Venher outlined promising directions for the development of industrial production in Ukraine in the post-war period. A lively discussion was sparked by the report of the Senior Researcher, Head of the Department of Natural, Man-made and Ecological Safety, Doctor of Economic Sciences Hanna Obykhod, who raised the issue of forming a list of indicators of ecological resilience for the affected territories.

Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Finance of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Zakharii Varnalii shared effective advice on strengthening the financial security of Ukraine in the conditions of martial law and the post-war period, delivering the report “Strengthening the financial security of business entities of Ukraine in the conditions of war as a factor of sustainable development”.

Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor of the Department of Socio-Economic Disciplines and Geography of H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University Tetiana Koptieva spoke words of faith in the victory and restoration of the country in the post-war period, outlining the prospects for the development of the Kryvyi Rih landscape and technical system for inbound tourism.

At the end of the plenary session, the conference participants worked in four sections:

  • Section 1. Theory and practice of cooperation between authorities, enterprise management and public institutions in the context of sustainable development goals;
  • Section 2. Stabilization of the financial system as a condition for the European integration of Ukraine;
  • Section 3. International economic activity of Ukraine: current conditions and development prospects;
  • Section 4. Prospects of socio-economic development of the country in the context of European integration.

During the discussions, scientists from leading Ukrainian and European universities as well as state scientific institutions paid considerable attention to consideration of Ukrainian enterprises management issues in the conditions of martial law, the practice of implementing corporate social responsibility in the conditions of war, organization and planning of sustainable territorial development of the post-war recovery of Ukraine.

In general, the conference was held at a high organizational and scientific level, and the discussed issues served as a fruitful basis for the exchange of ideas, caused an active discussion, during which the speakers answered questions and exchanged useful advice on further scientific research.

Summarizing the work of the conference, presidium members together with conference participants noted the acute relevance of the issues disclosed in the theses of the reports as well as the need for further scientific and applied research on modern issues of ensuring the sustainable development of the state in the conditions of modern realities.

At the end of the International scientific and practical Internet conference “Sustainable Development: Challenges and Threats in the Conditions of Modern Realities”, the participants unanimously adopted the final resolution.

Earlier, scientists of the Poltava Polytechnic took part in the international conference “Internationalisation as the Key to Resilience and Rebuilding: Twinning Anniversary”, experts of the National Scientific Center “Hon. Prof. M.S. Bokarius Forensic Science Institute” shared with future lawyers practical cases of forensic expert activity, participants of the Erasmus+ academic mobility programme shared their impressions of studying at a Romanian partner university.
