Due to the pandemic, FISU and the Students Sport Association of Hungary updated their format and held the four-day FISU World Forum 2020 online in August encouraging youth, experienced specialists in sport medicine, education and culture, to participate in the discussion.

This year, the World Forum took place in Budapest. The participants included students of higher education institutions of Ukraine, Poland, Iran, Singapore, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia and Russia. In total, there were more than 1,500 sport students from 102 countries.

“Despite the unusual form, the World Forum stood out because of gathering the largest audience in its long history. Ukraine was represented by 100 students from 8 following higher education institutions: Sumy State University, Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University, Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Prydniprovsk State Academy of Physical Culture and Sport, Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Kharkiv State Academy of Physical Culture, and Ternopil National Economic University,” the representatives of the Students Sport Association of Ukraine commented.

During the two-day conference, the participants discussed the problems of sport development at national universities, healthy lifestyle promotion, the activity of students’ sport associations, and the influence of the pandemic on the sport activity.

The Master of Sports in Cheerleading, student of the Faculty of Humanities of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Yuliia Radchenko was one of the most active participants of the forum. She spoke about the peculiarities of students’ sport development at Polytechnic and presented her own achievements in sport.

Students of the Faculty of Sport were also able to visit the online events of the forum and the sport activities that are always loved and visited by the participants; those are the traditional events of the FISU Forums. This year, the participants could compete in the online Swiss chess tournament and show their knowledge of FIFA20 in the Game Room.

“The Forum only lasted for a few days, but I got a lot of positive emotions from it. As for me, it is really cool to learn about the experience of more than one hundred countries within one large-scale event. I got lucky to participate in the development of a mobile application for athletes, something like a social network for people who have an active lifestyle. Every user will have their personal page with photos, videos, training programs and results diaries. Such an application will be very useful, especially in terms of the lockdown, when the real communication is greatly limited and switched to online mode. I also liked the series of seminars I visited called Healthy Campus, which was dedicated to athletes’ nutrition, housing and traveling during international competitions,” Yuliia Radchenko shared her impression.

International experience of this kind is extremely useful for polytechnic students, as the PhD in Pedagogy, Senior Research Assistant, Deputy Head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sport of Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Lina Rybalko emphasized: “I am thankful for the support to Rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko, the Head of the regional subdivision of the Students Sport Association in Poltava region. During the events of the Forum, our students were active participants. They visited round tables and competitions in intellectual and cyber sports online on Zoom. Yuliia Radchenko worked on a joined project representing the interests of the Students Sport Association of Ukraine within the working party of FISU. The student delivered a presentation at the round table and showed the participants the peculiarities of student sport development at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, shared her personal achievements in sport during her studying at university. The communication with professionals will be a wonderful motivation for further sport achievements.”

The international forum aims to promote students’ sport movements all around the world and is a communication space for students, sport leaders and the representatives of national sport federations of student sports from various countries, for the discussion of key problems of students’ sport movement, education, culture and health.
