Master’s student majoring in 191 Architecture and Urban Planning of the educational programme “Architecture of Buildings and Structures” of the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Polina Ostapenko is studying under the Erasmus+ Credit Academic Mobility Programme at Estonian University of Life Sciences / Eesti Maaülikool during the spring semester of the academic year 2023/2024 from February 5, 2024 to June 22, 2024.
The student shared her impressions of studying in Estonia: “From the first day, we already felt at home. The Estonian University of Life Sciences Eesti Maaülikool welcomed all international students with open arms, assigning each student a buddy who helped us during the orientation week.
Now I am finishing my second month of studies and I am already realising the invaluable experience and knowledge I can gain here.
Estonia is an excellent example of a country that actively cares about preserving the environment and creating sustainable development. A wide range of measures, from energy efficiency to biodiversity conservation, demonstrate a serious approach to this issue and a desire to achieve positive changes in the environment. That is why I am happy that I am studying here under the “Landscape Architecture” programme. During the academic year, there are many events dedicated to the use of renewable energy sources, environmentally friendly materials and much, much more. Each course is full of various practical classes on campus, tours, teamwork, seminars and workshops. This approach to learning helps you understand the material faster and apply it more effectively in practice.
I also made a lot of friends here from all over the world. The city of Tartu is called the student centre of Estonia for a reason. There are many educational institutions in the city, so almost every day we have the opportunity to attend various themed events, sightseeing tours and games for students. Among my friends alone, I count representatives of about 18 different nationalities. This gives me a unique opportunity to get to know other cultures, traditions, views and beliefs.
Although I still have a few months of studying ahead of me, I can already say that I am delighted with the credit academic mobility programme and look forward to what lies ahead! I am grateful to my university for providing students with such an opportunity for learning and development. This experience will allow me not only to deepen my knowledge, but also to broaden my horizons, which is of great importance for my personal and professional development.”
