"A historic event took place – a joint meeting of the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of Poltava and Kharkiv regions. As the Head of the Council of Rectors of our region, I did everything possible to create comfortable conditions for the exchange of experience and to present the opportunities available to our higher education institutions, including an extremely high level of scientific support and implementation of scientific technologies.

Our communities are united by both the fight against the enemy and plans to rebuild the country. Each university makes an important contribution to the development of defense capabilities, economic capacity and increasing the scientific potential of Ukraine.

In his welcoming speech, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Anatolii Zahorodnii stressed that the Science Day in Ukraine once again provided insight into the important role of science in our lives, in the processes of defense capability and security of our state. It is obvious that the war unleashed by Russia brought very difficult tests for the Ukrainian state, society and science. But despite all these troubles and problems, our scientists and educators have rallied, we all want to do our best to make Ukraine win. The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is currently doing everything in its power to help the state, said the Head of the NAS.

Deputy Chairman of the Committee on State Prizes of Ukraine in Science and Technology, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Poltava Polytechnic Vadym Stohnii announced the good news that the first laureates of the Borys Paton National Prize of Ukraine received awards and this year many works were submitted for awarding the Prize of the President of Ukraine for young scientists. This means that Ukrainian science is not stopping, but, on the contrary, is developing rapidly.

First Deputy Chairman of the Poltava Regional Council, Candidate of Law Oleksandr Lemeshko, is very close to educators and as no one understands the needs of higher education institutions in such difficult conditions, noted the importance of unity to overcome existing threats, expressed respect for Poltava and Kharkiv scientists and assured of further support in the Poltava region.

Specially invited participant – Rector of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University Oleh Novomlynets thanked for the support, humanitarian aid provided by colleagues from other universities and suggested emphasizing the need to find a new combination of "university" and "region" concepts and, perhaps, find a new mechanism of influence of universities on the life and development of regions:

"I drew attention to how united the whole country is, how united all our universities and all scientific institutions are, how actively all our universities  are involved in resistance. We have once again realized how important universities are not just as centers of educational and scientific activities, but this is really every university – Kharkiv, Poltava, Chernihiv – is the heart of our cities and our regions. We believe in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, we believe in education, we believe in science, everything will be Ukraine," – stressed the Rector of Chernihiv Polytechnic.

The rectors discussed the new experience and work not only on ensuring the educational process but also scientific, scientific-applied activities. Higher education institutions of the Kharkiv region are already working on the orders of the regional military administration and the mayor's office, commissions are being set up to develop projects for upgrading infrastructure, technologies, transport, etc. Scientists from Poltava higher education institutions presented promising areas for cooperation with state authorities and local self-government bodies, in particular in the field of environmental protection, energy recovery, civil engineering, architecture, IT, infrastructure, transport, economic, medical, psychological and pedagogical projects.

University leaders are willing to cooperate and create joint strategies for overcoming crises in the war and postwar period.

It should be recalled that Poltava Polytechnic continues to lead among Poltava higher education institutions in the ranking of scientific activity.
