National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” actively cooperates with European higher education institutions within the Erasmus+ KA 131 and KA 171 programmes. Among the partners of the university, a special place is occupied by Austrian higher education institutions, in particular, University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna, Fachhochschule Burgenland GmbH and University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt.
Every semester, leading higher education institutions accept students of Poltava Polytechnic to study within the Erasmus+ credit academic mobility. This helps them to gain international experience, deepen intercultural communication and develop professional skills necessary for a successful career in the globalised world.
Thanks to the cooperation with the leading Austrian universities, students of Poltava Polytechnic have a unique opportunity to be immersed in the modern European educational environment, which contributes to their professional and personal growth. The offered Erasmus+ credit academic mobility programmes allow prospective specialists not only to master new disciplines and practical skills, but also to improve their foreign language proficiency, exchange ideas with colleagues from other countries and develop important intercultural competences. This experience is a significant contribution to the development of young people as competitive professionals capable of implementing European professional standards in Ukrainian society.

In the autumn semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, a master’s student of group 501-FM, speciality 292 International Economic Relations of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law, Mariia Zaitseva is studying under the Erasmus+ credit academic mobility programme at the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt.
“In two months of study, I have already gathered a lot of unforgettable impressions and emotions! My journey to Austria was quite difficult and lasted almost 40 hours, but as soon as I got to my campus, I felt really calm and all my fatigue immediately disappeared. The first thing that struck me was the beauty around me – wherever you look, there are mountains! It fills you with energy and gives you a sense of excitement that never leaves me.
I was worried that I would be alone all the time, but in fact, there is a large Ukrainian community here, which allows me to bring my thoughts back to my native Ukraine and take a break from English. In addition, I have made friends with many students from different countries and it is very interesting to learn about the culture and traditions of different nations. By the way, the international fair helped me to do that, during which I was happy to present Poltava Polytechnic and hear a lot of interesting things from other students.
The peculiarities of studying in Austria were a real discovery for me. I never thought that I would be able to get a grade 1 in any of my subjects. As it turned out, the grading system differs from the one we are used to, because 1 is excellent, and 5 is unsatisfactory.
However, I noticed differences not only in the grading, but also in the duration of the classes. Some classes last 2, 3, 5, or even 7 hours. At first, I thought it was simply impossible, but in fact, now I realise that this approach is even better, since you can study the topic in detail and thoroughly and have time to consolidate it with group exercises. This is another huge advantage in learning. I always work with someone in a mini-group, so I never worry that I won’t understand something or make a mistake, as students always help and support each other. It’s also incredibly unusual for me that sometimes I have classes on Saturdays and some classes end at 10pm.
Of course, I have a few favourite subjects, but I like Quantitative Marketing Research the most because of the incredibly interesting projects we develop and implement, and Business Analysis because of the very informative quizzes and discussions.
Being a teacher here is prestigious. Most professors have extensive experience of working with the world’s leading companies, and that is why students try to learn every detail during lectures. The atmosphere in the classroom is always one of mutual respect and positivity. Teachers do their best to make the classes as interactive as possible: some of them organise quizzes, treat students to sweets and even give them small gifts.
Student life here is crazy! They constantly organise parties, concerts, excursions, various fairs and just make us happy with gifts. I already have a whole collection of university-branded stationery, shopper bags, different bottles and many, many treats.
I am grateful to Poltava Polytechnic for this great opportunity, and I am sure that the next two months will be no less interesting and eventful!” – says the student.
