Ministry of Education and Science, EIC Accelerator and USF hold a workshop on opportunities for Ukrainian innovators

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator and the Ukrainian Startup Fund conducted an online workshop for Ukrainian startups "The European Unicorn factory: funding opportunities for Ukrainian innovators".

On April 21, 2022, a workshop "The European Unicorn factory: funding opportunities for Ukrainian innovators" was held on European funding opportunities during the war in Ukraine.

"Every day Ukraine demonstrates courage and heroically resists Russian aggression. As a result of this brutal war, there is a need to overcome the impact of Russian aggression. In particular, it is necessary to create conditions for the development of an innovation ecosystem, combination of scientific and industrial potential, intensification of international cooperation in innovation, ensuring the technology transfer and commercialization of scientific results, an increase in the volume of innovation products and the sale of products with high profitability, which will accelerate the process of restoration of Ukraine and its economy," – said Minister of Education and Science Serhii Shkarlet.

Among the speakers were also:

  • Pavlo Kartashov, Director of the Ukrainian Startup Fund (USF);
  • Jean-David Malo, Director of the European Innovation Council and SME Agency;
  • Keith Sequeira, head of the EIC Board, Strategy and Feedback to Policy Unit;
  • Cornelius Schmaltz, head of the EIC Accelerator Unit.

During the workshop, the speakers informed about the state of Ukraine's innovation system, joint initiatives and support provided to startups during the war, as well as the Action Plan for 2021-2023 on the implementation of the Strategy for Innovation Development of the Sphere of Innovation Activity until 2030.

In addition, the program of the event included several lectures and Q&A sessions, the participants learned about the main concept of the European Innovation Council, the funding tools used by EIS to support innovation projects as well as the opportunities provided by EIC Accelerator (programs, application procedures, stages, platform, services).
