Polytechnic hosts an international conference on innovations in the archival, library and museum spheres

On November 25, the VI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Document and Information Communications in the Conditions of Globalization: State, Problems and Prospects” took place at the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”. Scientists and practitioners from around the country discussed the prospects of introducing innovative technologies in museum, archival and library affairs, as well as stakeholders gave practical advice to university graduates.

Academic staff of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” under the leadership of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Head of the Department, Professor Iryna Perederii conducted the VI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Document and Information Communications in the Conditions of Globalization: State, Problems and Prospects”. More than 130 scientists from 22 leading Ukrainian universities, university partners from the Central Library of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, practitioners of state scientific, archival institutions and museums of Poltava joined the active discussion on topical issues of innovative technologies introduction in museum, archival and library affairs. Interesting reports and practical cases were presented by stakeholders – employees of the State Archives of Poltava region and the State Historical and Cultural Reserve “The Field of Poltava Battle”, which traditionally become platforms for practice, internships and employment of Poltava Polytechnic graduates.

Scientists from the West Ukrainian National University (Ternopil), Odessa Polytechnic National University, Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University, National Aviation University, National Academy of Management of Culture and Arts (Kyiv), Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, Kamianets-Podilsky Ivan Ohienko National University (Kamianets-Podilskyi), Khmelnytsky National University, Mariupol State University, Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs (Dnipro), Ivan Kozhedub National Air Force University (Kharkiv), Poltava V. G. Korolenko National Pedagogical University, Higher Educational Institution of Ukoopspilka “Poltava University of Economics and Trade” shared their experiences. Due to quarantine restrictions caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic, scientific event was held online for the second time in a row, which did not prevent a lively exchange of experiences, scientific developments and creative ideas.

The Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Economic Development of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Olena Filonych, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Anna Aheicheva and Doctor of Historical Sciences, Head of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation, Professor Iryna Perederii greeted those present.

In her welcoming speech, the First Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Economic Development of Poltava Polytechnic Olena Filonych conveyed words of congratulations personally from Doctor of Economics, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko, stressed the important role of introducing innovative technologies in the educational process and the field of practical training of competitive graduates in leading Ukrainian universities, as the global pandemic COVID-19 has changed the format of professional and scientific communication, active development of many sectors of modern information society.

“Thanks to the coordinated work of the organizers and the fruitful cooperation of a whole cohort of Ukrainian and European scientists, it has changed its status and become an event of international level! Every year the topic of the conference does not lose its relevance, since many areas of our daily and professional life need a clear solution to the abovementioned problems.

Ukraine must be on a par with other leading countries and enter the world as well as European cultural and civilizational spaces, so I hope that today’s conference will be extremely effective and will allow the exchange of constructive views, our own vision of ways to solve existing problems. Poltava Polytechnic has become a great example of the introduction of information and innovative technologies in education, on our basis opened a number of state-of-the-art laboratories and training centers with the latest equipment from world-famous brands. Created favorable conditions for study positively motivate students and graduates to receive quality education of the European level in one of the best universities in Ukraine! I wish the participants scientific enthusiasm, fruitful discussions and successful speeches!” – highlighted Olena Filonych.

Doctor of Historical Sciences, Head of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation at the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor Iryna Perederii noted that the conference covers burning issues of theory and practice of document science and organization of information activities, linguistic bases of document science and translation, archival science, museum studies, use of documentary information resources and PR-technologies in the system of social communications, information and communication technologies in protection of national security in the conditions of hybrid warfare.

Document Science. Informology” Viktoriia Dobrovolska wished partakers inspiration and success.

Director of the State Archives of Poltava region Valentyna Hudym spoke about the achievements, issues and prospects of the regional archive: “We are currently working on adapting software that will help quickly find the necessary information and expand user access to this information. Students studying at Poltava Polytechnic and its graduates are actively involved in the process of digitizing documents, and our information sources we will try to place not only in Ukraine but also on international portals, such as the international corporation FamilySearch, which will provide interesting archival information not only for researchers, but also for ordinary citizens. Thus, the issues of ensuring the preservation of archival sources, the role of information technology in the information processing of documents, the restoration of archival sources are resolved in a timely manner. Archival institutions fully meet modern challenges. In my opinion, we can meet the demand for information for all consumers in different areas. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the whole galaxy of Ukrainian scientists and colleagues from Poltava Polytechnic for the quality preparation of students and the high level of organization of our fruitful cooperation. I wish you productive work and effective exchange of experience!”

At the plenary session of the VI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Document and Information Communications in the Conditions of Globalization: State, Problems and Prospects” seven reports were made, and each of them aroused genuine interest as well as lively discussion, exchange of constructive ideas.

Head of the Intercultural Communication Sector, Coordinator of the “Window to America” Center of the Central Scientific Library of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Kharkiv) Kateryna Lyskova shared her experience in implementing media and information literacy programs in the library’s practice. The speaker made a report “Media and Information Literacy Programs: Library Experience and Practical Examples (on the example of the V. N. Karazin KhNU Central Scientific Library)”, in which she analyzed useful practical cases on creating a modern information space at scientific library locations.

Report of the Bulgarian partners “Central Library of BAS: Challenges and Transformations in the conditions of COVID-19 Pandemic”, devoted to the search for new forms of library activities in the information society and the COVID-19 pandemic, provoked a lively scientific discussion. The bright speech was prepared and presented by the Director of the Central Library of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (Sofia, Bulgaria) Silvia Naidenova and her colleague and co-author of the article, Head of the Service Funds Department Gabriela Georgieva.

Deputy Director for Information Technologies of the Poltava Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I.P. Kotlyarevsky Liudmyla Vlasenko spoke about current innovations in the work of this Cultural Institution, regarding the implementation of information and digital services (“Information and digital services of the Poltava Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I.P. Kotlyarevsky”).

Leading scientists of the Department of Information and Socio-Cultural Activities of the West Ukrainian National University (Ternopil), co-organizers of the conference – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Information and Socio-Cultural Sciences Lesia Bilovus and Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor, lecturer of the Department of Information and Socio-Cultural Activities Nataliia Yablonska shared their achievements in the field of research of the influence of the information factor on the state of political culture (“Influence of the Information Factor on the State of Political Culture”).

The concept of terrorist war in the paradigm of hybrid confrontation (on the experience of local conflicts of the XXI century) was presented by Doctor of History, Professor of the Department of Philosophy at Ivan Kozhedub National Air Force University (Kharkiv), Professor Ruslan Hula, who prepared a report together with Candidate of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Philosophy at Ivan Kozhedub National Air Force University (Kharkiv) Petro Kvitkin.

Report of the well-known Ukrainian scientist in the field of onomastics, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Professor of the Department of Information Management Systems of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University (Vinnytsia) Halyna Lukash was devoted to topical problems of language personality in today's information space.

The conference partakers worked in six subject sections:

  • Section 1. Document science and information activities in the system of modern scientific researches.
  • Section 2. Linguistic bases of document science, information activity and translation issues.
  • Section 3. Information technologies and systems in the field of document science.
  • Section 4. Library, archival and museum industries in the development of the information society.
  • Section 5. Document and information resources and PR-technologies in the system of social communications.
  • Section 6. Information and communication technologies in the protection of national security in the conditions of hybrid warfare.

In general, the conference was held at a high organizational and scientific level, and the issues discussed served as a fruitful basis for the exchange of views and sparked an active discussion, during which speakers answered questions and exchanged useful advice on further researches.

At the end of the VI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Document and Information Communications in the Conditions of Globalization: State, Problems and Prospects” participants unanimously adopted the final resolution.

Previously, archivists, documentologists and museologists exchanged experiences in implementing innovations, and the philologist shared practical life hacks with lyceum students on how to prepare promising scientific researches.
