“Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit 2024”: scientist and students of Polytechnic take part in an international Summit for Women in Tech & IT

On 12-13 June 2024, the Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Alla Bolotnikova and third-year students of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Victoriia Vakula and Iryna Temchenko took part in “Perspective Women in Tech Summit 2024”, the sixth biggest conference for women in Tech & IT in Europe and Asia, which was held in Warsaw at the EXPO XXI exhibition centre.

The slogan of this year’s Summit was “Tech Life Balance” – two days of intensive sessions from inspirational expert speakers, more than 50 practical workshops and experience exchange, fascinating lectures by experts and leaders in the field of modern technology and innovation, fruitful discussions, and mentoring sessions.

Leading scientists, engineers, executives, startups, and experts from the world’s largest companies joined the Summit, including Professor Margot Gerritsen, founder of the global Women in Data Science movement, Clara Nellist, a science influencer and particle physicist at CERN, Gitanjali Rao, America’s Best Young Scientist and global STEM promoter, and Professor Andrzej Dragan, a renowned physicist whose lecture was titled “Does AI have am I (IQ)?”, Professor Christiane Floyd, creator of the foundations of open source software and the first ever female professor of computer science in Germany.

The event was also attended by representatives of the ministries Barbara Nowacka, Krzysztof Gawkowski and Katarzyna Kotula, US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski, and British Ambassador to Poland Anna Clunes.

The Ukrainian panel was represented by the following speakers: Khrystyna Serozhechkina, Wtech Ukraine Lead Partner and CEO of Kooperativ, Hanna Mahiera, Wtech Ambassador and Managing Director of ICLUB, Valeriia Borshch, Wtech Lead Partner in Europe, Head of Marketing at GIATA GmbH, Kateryna Nakonechna, Wtech Partner in Kyiv, Commercial Director at GMS AG, Anastasiia Solodovnikova, panel moderator, Wtech Partner in Warsaw, expert in Supply Chain & Logistics Tech.

According to the organisers, about 13,000 people registered for the event in the EXPO XXI hall, the vast majority of whom were women.

“I had an incredible opportunity to attend the Summit in Poland. The first thing that struck me was a huge pavilion with a large number of “stations” of different companies, whose representatives encouraged participants to complete small tasks like registration or a game and receive branded merchandise in the form of shopper pens, stickers or key chains,” – says student Iryna Temchenko.

Attention was drawn to the stands of more than one hundred of the most innovative global companies, such as Meta, Google, Motorola, Volvo, Procter & Gamble, Amazon, KPMG, Netflix, Visa, Hitachi Vantara, Paramount Pictures, and others, as well as to the job fair with recruitment meetings and networking, in particular, this year’s attraction was a quantum computer.

According to scientist Alla Bolotnikova, students of Poltava Polytechnic had a unique opportunity to meet with experts, where they learned about the offers of leading companies, recruitment procedures, global trends in new technologies, met prominent industry experts and received valuable advice in writing CVs.

The topics of the events included artificial intelligence, neurodiversity, quantum computing, human-machine interaction, data science, cloud solutions, digital ecology, and cybersecurity.

The lecture by Amanda Gethin (Global talent Leader, Consulting) on a conscious business and individual approach to the use of new technologies and their creation to support neurodiversity, social inclusion, sustainable development, which improves the quality of life and helps to get rid of digital fatigue was extremely interesting.

According to student Viktoriia Vakula, speakers from many countries gathered here and were ready to share their experience and knowledge with all participants. They talked about the psychological aspects of women in science, artificial intelligence, specifics of mathematical calculations, quantum mechanics, etc. And most importantly, all the information was presented in a language that was easy to understand, so it was quite interesting to listen to.

The impressions of the two days are very positive and the participants can confidently say that such trips really expand the horizons of one’s thoughts and perception of the modern world, so they advise not to miss the opportunity to attend such events.

Recently, a philologist took part in the annual conference in the capital of Slovenia, and a researcher and a postgraduate student of Poltava Polytechnic successfully presented their own work at the European conference AAPG 2024.
