Traditionally, the “Poltava Polytechnic Summer Language Camp” was held at the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” in the summer, and the active participants were the 9th and 10th year schoolchildren of general secondary education institutions of Poltava.
In accordance with the agreements on scientific and educational cooperation between the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and general secondary education institutions of the Poltava region, as well as with the aim of developing the linguistic abilities of gifted students, deepening the knowledge and practical skills of the participants of the educational process in English, scientific, educational and intellectual activities are held annually to motivate young people to learn foreign languages more actively, to improve their language skills and become part of the European language space.
From 4 to 6 June, 2024, the participants of “Poltava Polytechnic Summer Language Camp” attended a number of classes and master classes, learned more about the multidisciplinary activities of one of the best classical universities in the country and spent their summer holidays in a meaningful way.
For future graduates, participation in the language camp is a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the prestigious specialities as well as the excellent material and technical base of Poltava Polytechnic and finally decide on the choice of their dream profession.
More than 50 students of Poltava educational institutions became campers of the “Poltava Polytechnic Summer Language Camp” – students of the Poltava City Multidisciplinary Lyceum No. 1 named after I. P. Kotliarevskyi of the Poltava City Council of the Poltava Region, Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of the Poltava City Council, Communal institution “Poltava comprehensive school of grades I-III number 2” of the Poltava City Council of the Poltava Region and communal institution “Poltava comprehensive school of grades I-III number 26” of the Poltava City Council of the Poltava Region.
It is worth mentioning that the academic staff of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages and students of the speciality 014 Secondary Education (English and a Second Foreign Language) of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” joined the classes and master classes as well as provided the students with all the necessary consulting and methodological assistance.
For several days full of intellectual and scientific activities, the students improved their English language skills, as the classes were held in an exciting game format, and the study of certain linguistic topics or grammatical structures was accompanied by non-standard tasks.
The students had a fun and beneficial time: they got to know each other, talked about their hobbies, and simultaneously improved their language skills.
In particular, the students visited the state-of-the-art laboratories of the university, the Foreign Language Learning Centres, had an extreme excursion to the VR lab and the 3D cinema, rode electric scooters and gyroscopes on the innovative DTEK Alley, visited the Students’ Hub and were inspired by the beauty of the exhibition “Afflated Flight” at the Centre for Contemporary Art of Poltava Polytechnic.
The final day was held in the format of a “farewell party” – the students visited the Invincibility Point of Poltava Polytechnic (Students’ Hub), where students majoring in 014 Secondary Education (English and a Second Foreign Language) improved the English language skills of the invited students in a game form and treated them to tea and sweets during the coffee break.
Future teachers of foreign languages shared their impressions of studying at a multidisciplinary classical university, told about the significant advantages of foreign languages and invited future applicants to join the friendly student family of Poltava Polytechnic.
The participants of the “Poltava Polytechnic Summer Language Camp” received certificates presented by the Dean of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Anna Aheicheva and the Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Alla Bolotnikova.
Recently, the lyceum students celebrated Science Days 2014 with scientific and educational events with Poltava Polytechnic, schoolchildren attended a simultaneous interpretation master class and spent a week travelling around the world of professions at Poltava Polytechnic.
