Poltava Region Classic Powerlifting Championship is held at the Polytechnic

At the sports base of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, the Poltava Region Classic Powerlifting Championship was held. More than 80 athletes from Poltava, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Kremenchuk, Horishni Plavni, Reshetylivka, Kobeliaky, Novi Sanzhary, Lohvytsia, Kotelva, Popivka and Hadiach competed for the championship in various categories. Polytechnic student Valeriia Koniukhova became the bronze medallist of the prestigious competition.

Poltava Region Classic Powerlifting Championship is held at the Polytechnic

On March 4-5, at the state-of-the-art sports base of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, the Poltava Region Classic Powerlifting Championship was held among men and women, female and male juniors, boys and girls, and veterans. The large-scale sports event took place with the support of the rector of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, the head of the separate division of the All-Ukrainian public organization “Sports Student Union” in the Poltava region, the head of the Ukrainian Federation of Student Sports in the Poltava region Volodymyr Onyshchenko, the Powerlifting Federation of the Poltava region and the Poltava branch Committee of Physical Education and Sports of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

More than 80 athletes from Poltava, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Kremenchuk, Horishni Plavni, Reshetylivka, Kobeliaky, Novi Sanzhary, Lohvytsia, Kotelva, Popivka and Hadiach took part in the competition, who won absolute first place in various categories. Female and male juniors as well as experienced athletes presented the audience with a series of bright performances, demonstrating excellent physical shape as a result of daily hard training.

The ceremonial opening of the Poltava Region Classic Powerlifting Championship among men and women, female and male juniors, boys and girls, veterans began with the honouring of the National Flag, commemoration of compatriots who died as a result of the full-scale war with the russian aggressor on the territory of Ukraine, and the congratulatory words by the organizers.

The President of the Powerlifting Federation of the Poltava region, Head of the Poltava branch of the Committee of Physical Education and Sports of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Master of Sports of International Class of Ukraine, judge of the International category, multiple champion and prize-winner of Ukrainian and international powerlifting competitions Yuliia Hordiienko, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Lina Rybalko and Master of Sports of Ukraine in powerlifting, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the Poltava State Medical University Valerii Zhamardii emphasized the wide opportunities for professional and amateur sports to systematically develop, even in the conditions of a full-scale invasion of the russian federation on the territory of our country, and wished the athletically gifted youth and experienced athletes vital energy, inspiration, successful performances, significant achievements and bright victories at the sports Olympus.

“Each of you is already a winner, as you have put in a lot of effort in order to demonstrate significant personal achievements in your chosen sport today. From my own experience, I know how sometimes it is not easy to cope, to overcome one's own excitement, and it does not depend on who is in front of the judges – a junior who is taking the first steps at the regional, all-Ukrainian or international levels or an experienced veteran with many honourable sports trophies in his/her treasury.

Another important thing is that you have overcome everything, you are here and thanks to our Armed Forces of Ukraine, you have the opportunity to show your skill in conquering new sports peaks. I wish you successful performances, good luck and new bright victories!” – congratulated the future sports elite of the country the president of the Powerlifting Federation of Poltava region, head of the Poltava branch of the Committee of Physical Education and Sports of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Master of Sports of International Class of Ukraine, judge of the International category Yuliia Hordiienko.

According to the head of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of Poltava Polytechnic, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Lina Rybalko, Poltava Polytechnic has traditionally become a powerful venue for sports events of this level. And the dialogue of sports-active youth, experienced coaches and titled athletes vividly reproduces the synergy of the fruitful interaction of one of the best classical universities of the country, the activities of leading sports clubs and future sports talents of Poltava region.

“By creating favourable conditions for the development of school and student sports, Poltava Polytechnic has already raised a new generation of champions who glorify their alma mater and Ukraine at international competitions. The sports future of our country lies in the youth, who are open to new things and persistent in achieving their goals!” – stressed Lina Rybalko.

Spectators greeted the performances of their favourite athletes with applause and cheered enthusiastically. The main judge of the competition was the vice-president of the Powerlifting Federation of Poltava Region, judge of the National Category, Master of Sports of International Class of Ukraine in powerlifting, absolute winner of the Championship of Poltava region in classical bench press, silver medallist of the European Championship in Powerlifting, world champion in classical bench press, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, senior lecturer of the Department of Physical Therapy and Ergotherapy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Oksana Hordiienko.

Students of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” took part in the competition, in particular, a student of group 101-FR of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, a gold medallist of the Championship of the Poltava region in classical bench press, the champion of Ukraine in powerlifting among girls Valeriia Koniukhova became a bronze medallist of the Poltava Region Classic Powerlifting Championship.

According to the results of the competition, the following won the absolute championship among women:

  • I place – Victoriia Sahan (urban-type community of Novi Sanzhary);
  • II place – Karina Nat (city of Poltava);
  • III place – Valeriia Konaukhova (city of Poltava).

Among men, the top three winners included:

  • I place – Anatolii Nemudryi (city of Poltava);
  • II place – Serhii Subota (city of Hadiach);
  • III place – Yurii Cherniavskyi (city of Kobeliaky).

It should be recalled that Polytechnic student Dariia Holovko became the champion of Ukraine and the absolute bronze champion in powerlifting according to the IPF formula among female juniors, and first-year student of FPCS Valeriia Koniukhova became the champion of Ukraine in powerlifting among girls.

Recently, the Open Championship of the Poltava region in boxing among female and male juniors was held at the Polytechnic.

Previously, the Polytechnic team became the champion of the XVIII Poltava Region Basketball Universiade, the university teams won the All-Ukrainian Sports Billiards Competition “Free Pyramid”, the Poltava Region WAKO Kickboxing Championship was held at the Polytechnic, and the Poltava Region Open Kettlebell Sports Championship took place.
