On 6-7 June 2024, the mixed format Eurodoc’s AGM – Annual General Meeting of Eurodoc – the European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers, a non-governmental organisation that internationally represents and protects the interests of more than 2 million young scientists in Europe, was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Eurodoc includes 23 national associations from 26 European countries, and Ukraine has been a member since 2014.

Despite the complicated logistics, a representative of Poltava Polytechnic, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation Anna Pavelieva, who has been acting as the external communications coordinator of Eurodoc for two years in a row (since 2022), took part in the AGM in Slovenia.

Her responsibilities included managing the communication team, organising the publication of articles on the Eurodoc website, posting on Eurodoc’s social media, communicating with national organisations and stakeholders, running social media campaigns, as well as assisting the President and Vice President of the organisation.

It should be recalled that Anna Pavelieva was first elected to the position of External Communication Coordinator at the European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers in 2022, and again in the summer of 2023.

On 6 June, Anna Pavelieva presented a report on the results of her activities in this position during the previous cadence, and on 7 June, she presented her work plan for 2024/2025. All 26 Eurodoc member states voted unanimously to approve the communications report and to nominate Anna Pavelieva as Eurodoc’s External Communications Coordinator for 2024/2025.

“Since June 2023, Eurodoc’s communication activities have focused on important issues affecting the EU research community. In cooperation with organisations such as MCAA, ICoRSA and YAE, surveys were conducted to assess the needs of researchers and multilingualism in scientific publications. Eurodoc supported the Lund Declaration, strongly condemned the Swedish government’s decision to cut funding for development research, supported an open letter calling on the European Commission to take into account the needs of researchers and educators in its legislative work, and called for solutions for Hungarian doctoral students and young scientists to participate in the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programmes. Throughout the year, various events were held to support researchers and improve working conditions in the academy, including a series of seminars. Eurodoc also advocated for quality employment conditions to ensure quality research results, emphasising the value of their work. I am sincerely grateful to my colleagues from Eurodoc for the cooperation in 2023/2024 and to the administration of Poltava Polytechnic for the opportunity to combine work and self-development by joining such wonderful initiatives as Eurodoc’s activities and for supporting all the initiatives and projects.

Together with the newly elected President of Eurodoc, a Dane, Pil Maria Saugmann, we have already defined the main vectors of Eurodoc’s communication for 2024/2025 and plans for the next months,” – says Anna Pavelieva.

Recently, a Polytechnic scientist took part in the Forum of the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine, and Rector of Poltava Polytechnic Volodymyr Onyshchenko took part in a meeting of the Union of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine.
