On November 25-28, 2022, the first hackathon in Ukraine with a focus on mineral and metallurgical processes for sustainable development took place – “Raw Materials Hackathon: Change4Future”, which was held by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, with the support of the public organization “ReThink”, the organization “Greencubator” , LLC “Geological Investment Group”, LLC “DTEK Naftogaz” as well as specialized universities of Ukraine.

The participants of the hackathon were scientists of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”: Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Geological Sciences, Professor Oleksandr Lukin, director of the university’s Educational and Production Centre Petro Holub and graduate student Olena Martus.

The hackathon presented information on the results of geological, laboratory, and scientific research conducted at the Poltava Polytechnic, as well as proposed priority directions for geological exploration as well as oil and gas production, in accordance with the hackathon’s questions on increasing hydrocarbon production.

“All the presented works were performed on the basis of the university’s laboratories (geological, chemical-analytical, environmental, well drilling as well as intensification of oil and gas flows), which are equipped and complemented with the latest devices as well as installations thanks to the rector.

The rector of the university – Professor Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Onyshchenko deeply understands the needs of the oil and gas complex, the requirements and standards of modern oil and gas education, constantly supports educational, production and scientific relations with oil and gas enterprises, the Ukrainian Geological Survey, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, and while staying in foreign universities and organizations takes over foreign experience, generates ideas, adapts to our conditions, introduces best practices and methods into the educational process and research work. Therefore, our students, taking an active part in scientific research work, acquire not only theoretical knowledge in classrooms, but also gain practical skills and experience by working in laboratories, training grounds, and simulators,” – commented Director of the Educational and Production Centre Petro Holub.

According to the results of participation in the hackathon, Poltava Polytechnic scientists received certificates.

It should be recalled that the university announced with deep sorrow the death of scientist Volodymyr Makohon, one of the best geologists of Ukraine, and a student of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas created a 3D model of the central campus for University Day.

Previously, the rector presented updates in the training of oil and gas industry specialists and successful business projects, Polytechnic scientists presented oil and gas companies with opportunities to strengthen business, rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko was elected vice president of the Ukrainian Oil and Gas Academy, and university scientists were elected as academicians.
