About a hundred representatives of schoolchildren and students of Poltava region took part in the III (regional) stage of the XXII Petro Jacyk International Ukrainian Language Competition. A highly qualified jury determined three leaders in each age group. The winners of the regional stage will represent Poltava region at the All-Ukrainian competition stage, which will take place on February 26 in Kyiv.
Competition tasks took into account participants’ versatile erudition, development of creative thinking as well as the ability to express one’s own opinion, and the jury noted the high level of contestants’ creative work. Partakers demonstrated knowledge of various sections of the science of language, creativity and excellent command of the literary word.
Student of the Educational and Research Institute of Information Technology and Robotics of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Yana Kapustian took third place at the regional stage of the XXII Petro Jacyk International Ukrainian Language Competition. The freshman successfully coped with all the tasks, and now will take part in the final stage of the competition, continuing to compete for the nominal scholarship of the President of Ukraine. The winner was prepared by the Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation of the Faculty of Humanities Iryna Denysovets.

The competition is held in pursuance of the decrees of the President of Ukraine of November 9, 2007 № 1078 “On the Petro Jacyk International Ukrainian Language Competition”, of November 28, 2007 № 1155 “On some measures to enhance the role of the Ukrainian language”.
Purpose of the competition is to promote the status of Ukrainian as the state language, to raise its prestige, to instill in the young generation of Ukrainians respect for the language of their people.
Organizers of the competition are the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the League of Ukrainian Patrons. The annual language “marathon” traditionally started on November 9, the Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language.
Previously, students and scientists of the Polytechnic won scholarships of the Poltava Regional Council named after Ihor Serdiuk and Andrii Konoplov, as well as the Polytechnic student was named the best student-public figure of the Poltava region.
