Despite Ukraine’s martial law and Ukraine’s desperate resistance to Russian aggression, the student youth of Poltava Polytechnic continues their scientific researches for professional development in the field of state’s energy security.

The 9th Annual Student Energy Congress (ASEC) 2022 took place from 7 to 9 March at the University of Zagreb (Croatia), bringing together students and young professionals from around the world to discuss innovations in the energy business as well as the oil and gas industry. The working language of the congress is English.

Poltava Polytechnic was represented by the Head of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas, Professor Branimir Tsvetkovych, third-year postgraduate student Yuliia Diachenko (specialty “Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology”) and Andrii Buchynskyi – a master’s student of group 501-MN (specialty “Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology”).

“I thank the Student Department of the SPE of the University of Zagreb for organizing the 9th Annual Student Energy Congress – ASEC. The congress was attended by students from more than 10 SPE student offices across Europe,” – commented the regional director of SPE in Europe and Senior Expert in Stimulus Engineering Laura Precupanu.

“I am convinced that events of this format are important and necessary for the exchange of experience among young scientists from different countries. They motivate them to comprehensive self-improvement and acquisition of new skills. The work of the conference continued in sectional meetings, where topical issues of the oil and gas complex were covered. It is worth noting that among the works of young scientists there are some that address certain today’s problems: for example, underground storage of CO2 in depleted oil and gas beds of the world. I am grateful to the university management for the opportunity to present my research at an event of this level and I am proud to be a representative of Ukraine,” – noted postgraduate student Yuliia Diachenko.

Within the framework of the Congress there was hosted PetroBowl European Regional Qualifying Tournament, where SPE student teams competed against each other in a series of blitz rounds, answering technical and non-technical questions related to the industry, as well as the SPE SPC Europe 2022 competition.

Poltava Polytechnic was the only Ukrainian university represented at the congress, whose students competed in a scientific competition together with representatives of the most prestigious universities in Europe. At the competition of scientific papers SPE SPC Europe 2022 students of Poltava Polytechnic made the following reports:

  • Andrii Buchynskyi – “Engineering forecasting of the development of portable upper drive systems” (supervisor – Associate Professor of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology Myroslav Buchynskyi);
  • Yuliia Diachenko – “Evaluation of antifriction properties of vegetable oils and their impact on the properties of drilling fluids” (supervisor – Associate Professor of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology Victoriia Dmytrenko).

Congress partakers received certificates.

Previously, Polytechnic delegation took part in the first SPE Eastern Europe Subsurface Conference and the 5th International Fuel Congress “New Energy – New Challenges”, where Yuliia Diachenko spoke at the competition of scientific reports and Andrii Buchynskyi won the competition of scientific papers.
