On September 18, 2021, a scientist who had worked at the university for 40 years (since 1981) passed away. In different years he worked as the head of the Department of Structural Mechanics, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. In 2014 he became the head of the then newly created Department of Structural and Theoretical Mechanics named after L. Serdiuk.
Professor Oleksandr Shkurupii had achievements in such a scientific field as the development of methods for calculating the strength, rigidity, and stability of building edifices and their elements for different types of loads and influences. With the participation of Oleksandr Shkurupii, were updated state building norms of Ukraine and state standards were developed (“DBN B.2.6-98: 2009 Structures of buildings and edifices. Concrete and reinforced concrete edifices. Basic provisions” – Ministry of Regional Development and Construction of Ukraine. Kyiv, 2011).
He had more than 300 publications, 5 textbooks (two of them with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science), was an official opponent in the defense of dissertations of scientists from all over Ukraine. He also worked with gifted youth and encouraged them to study natural sciences.
In addition to scientific achievements, Oleksandr Shkurupii took an active part in the extracurricular life of the university, supported sports initiatives and was a member of the university team in sports billiards, winning the Cup of Ukraine in 2019 and the title of the best billiards players of Ukraine among scientific and pedagogical workers of higher education institutions.
For many years of conscientious work, significant personal contribution to the development of national education, preparing of highly qualified specialists, fruitful scientific and pedagogical activities Oleksandr Shkurupii was awarded the Diploma of Poltava Regional State Administration, honours of the university and Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
The staff of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” deeply mourns and expresses condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of the scientist.
