Psychoemotional support: an instruction in case of danger

As part of the National Program of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support at the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, the team of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with the psychologists of the Telegram channel “Take care of yourself” reminds about advice in case of danger.

Our country is experiencing missile threats from the russian federation. We suggest you review the note on behaviour in times of danger:

  • It is advisable to prepare in advance a supply of water and food for several days, which you can use if necessary.
  • Take an emergency bag with you and head for shelter or a safe place. It is advisable to have a power bank, a small supply of food and drinking water, as well as a small radio, so that in case of issues with the mobile Internet, you can receive a message about the end of the air raid alarm.
  • Stay in shelter or a safe place until you hear the “end of an air raid alarm” sound.
  • Make sure you and your child are dressed in comfortable clothes according to the weather. Do not allow hypothermia. In order not to catch a cold, watch what you sit on, use mats or special pads.
  • If possible, carry a thermos with warm tea or chocolate. This will help not only to warm up, but also to calm the child in case of tantrums (when a person drinks hot, s/he switches his/her attention to not spilling or getting burned);
  • If possible, carry a small supply of food that is convenient to snack on while waiting for the air raid to end.
  • Do not leave the child unattended. A child needs the care of parents or other adults who are close at the moment of danger, especially when there is no light and there are problems with communication. Even teenagers feel anxiety at such moments and although they try not to show it, they worry additionally. Talk to the child, perform calming exercises. You can also use games and exercises from the Telegram channel “Support the child”, which are adapted to the conditions of bomb shelters and bad Internet connection.
  • Take care of yourself and, if possible, try to calm down. The condition of the child/children nearby depends on your actions. If you need calming practices, you can use the materials of the “Take care of yourself” Telegram channel.
  • When needed, use domestic roaming to stay connected. However, try not to overload the network and use short-term calls so that as many people as possible can use mobile communication and tell their loved ones that they are all right.
  • In the event that you have no electricity, water or heat at home, you can always go to the Indomitability Point.

It should be recalled that earlier we published materials that will help control body reactions in extreme conditions.
