On October 28, Head of the Poltava Branch, Member of the Presidium of the North-East Scientific Center of the National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Rector of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko took part in the meeting of the NASU North-East Scientific Center and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, held in Kharkiv, on the topic "Scientific principles of the Ukraine forests and forestry adaptation strategy in the climate change context." Scientists and specialists from different parts of the country have deliberated on a number of current global issues of modern society related to rapid climate changes and developed effective practical cases to resolve the environmental situation.
"At the invitation of the head of the NASU North-East Scientific Center and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Volodymyr Semynozhenko, I joined the fruitful scientific and professional communication with leading scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, with which Poltava Polytechnic combines long-standing partnerships and fruitful long-term cooperation in the field of science and education.
The world community is deeply concerned about global environmental problems that threaten the economic and financial stability of all countries, without exception. At the global level, two days ago, a large-scale discussion was held in the UN General Assembly, attended by more than 70 countries. It continues at the annual climate summit COP-26 (Conference of Parties-26) – representatives of 197 countries will discuss the climate crisis and agree on the implementation of measures to prevent a global catastrophe. The topics of the meeting of the Council of the North-East Scientific Center brought together scientists, representatives of state structures, local self-governments, and Ukrainian parliamentarians.
Warming and lack of precipitation threaten а sharp deterioration of Ukrainian forests. Our scientists claim that forest ecosystems instantly respond to climate change. The conservation issues need to be addressed immediately and a long-term action plan to be developed," – commented Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
In the work of the Council of the North-East Scientific Center of the National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine took part Deputy Chairman of the State Agency of Forest Resources of Ukraine Viktor Smal, Acting Head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration Oleksandr Skakun, Deputy Chairman of the Kharkiv Regional Council Valeriia Muraieva, People's Deputy of Ukraine, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management Oleksandr Feldman, Deputy Chairman of the Sumy Branch, Rector of Sumy National Agrarian University, Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine Volodymyr Ladyka.
The main speaker was the Director of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Forestry and Forest Melioration named after G. M. Vysotsky, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Viktor Tkach presented a thorough report in which he comprehensively revealed the existing problems and suggested possible ways to solve them at the local and state levels.
As a result of the discussion, suggestions and recommendations were adopted that will be sent to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Earlier, the rector of the Polytechnic became a member of the Council of the North-East Scientific Center of the National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
