Students of specialty 227 Therapy and Rehabilitation of Poltava Polytechnic together with the Dean of Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Lina Rybalko, Head of the Department of Physical Therapy and Ergotherapy, Candidate of Medical Sciences Viktoriia Horoshko and the academic staff of the Department of Physical Therapy and Ergotherapy made an educational visit to the Poltava branch of the Lviv Medical Prosthetic and Orthopaedic Centre “Orthotop”, during which future specialists were told about the main activities of the existing enterprise.
In particular, the students and researchers got acquainted with the practical aspects of prosthetics and physical rehabilitation of servicemen after it, which will open up new opportunities for research and development of effective programmes to support and adapt servicemen in the process of recovery from traumatic events. The staff also told the students about the stages of prosthetics, emphasising the specifics and importance of physical rehabilitation both during and after prosthetics.
The students also had the opportunity to see different types of foot deformities, including flat feet, and to learn about the peculiarities of manufacturing and using special insoles for preventive and therapeutic purposes.
According to the Head of Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of Poltava Polytechnic, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Lina Rybalko, such cooperation between the university and the practice bases for future physical rehabilitation specialists will definitely help improve the quality of life of the servicemen who have undergone amputations and need comprehensive support for their full recovery as well as reintegration into civilian life.
During the war in Ukraine, the rehabilitation of war veterans, combatants, and servicemen after prosthetics is an extremely important area of focus. The aim of the initiative is to further cooperate and expand the range of rehabilitation services for war veterans and combatants who have lost their limbs. This initiative is aimed at improving the methods of rehabilitation and integration of war veterans and servicemen with prosthetic limbs into civilian life.
It should be recalled that the activities of the Veteran Development Centre of Poltava Polytechnic are aimed at providing psychological, physical, rehabilitation services to war veterans, combatants, and military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Recently, Polytechnic signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation with the Medical Centre “Novi Sanzhary” of the National Guard of Ukraine.
Therefore, the teachers and students of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, who are studying to become a physical rehabilitator and an ergotherapist, join a number of educational and professionally oriented events held at the Veteran Development Centre, preparing to become a reliable support in the process of physical recovery and rehabilitation of the defenders.
Earlier, as part of master classes, students improved their manual techniques, future rehabilitation specialists studied human functional anatomy using modern laboratory equipment of the university, Polytechnic representatives took part in a discussion of veterans’ reintegration initiatives, and the Veteran Development Centre hosted a meeting of scientists from the Department of Physical Therapy and Ergotherapy with stakeholders in the field of rehabilitation.
