“On 24 February, our university faced a new challenge – the beginning of a full-scale war. Immediately responding to the challenges of martial law, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” ensured the organisation of the educational process. We are almost the only university in the region that provides the educational process live. The university has created safe conditions for all employees and students, organised the accommodation of internally displaced people, collected and delivered humanitarian aid.

Since the first days of the war, the university has arranged shelters on the territory of the university and the campus, providing them with water, food and basic necessities. Every day we communicated with the residents of the dormitories, staff and students, gave instructions and explained the procedure for action when an alert is announced through the university’s warning system.

This year, applicants from almost 20 regions of Ukraine entered our university. Forming a contingent of higher education applicants is one of the most important tasks of our entire team. I state the fact that in the conditions of war Poltava Polytechnic is among the TOP 50 best universities in Ukraine by the number of applications submitted during the admission campaign of 2022. We received 6168 applications, which made it possible for Polytechnic to take the 46th place in the ranking.

For the first time in its recent history, the university started the new academic year earlier for 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students on August 15. The first-year bachelor’s students started their studies on September 19, and the first-year master’s students on October 3.

The University’s readiness for the new academic year was certified by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Poltava Region and the State Labour Service in Poltava Region after the work of a special commission.

The main principle in organising the educational process is: “Safety is above all!”. Therefore, Poltava Polytechnic meets all the safety conditions and ensures a high level of quality of educational services!

The educational process under martial law was provided for almost 5000 students who attended classes in person. At the same time, distance learning was provided in an asynchronous format for foreign students and students who could not come to the university.

During the periods of aggravation of the security situation, the educational process was carried out in distance and blended learning formats.

A unique and large-scale event dedicated to \Freshman Day was held under the slogan “Study in Ukraine!”. This patriotic event was attended by the leaders of our city and region, who expressed their respect for the entire staff and students of our university.

During the war, we continued to fulfil our mission and successfully ensured the passage of accreditation examinations. Therefore, we ensured the successful accreditation of NAHEQA educational programmes: 6 accreditation procedures were successfully completed and 5 certificates were extended.

Our daily work results in leading positions in various international rankings. We are very pleased to state that our university is included in the authoritative world QS ranking and takes the 30th position among 41 higher education institutions of Ukraine, being the only university of the Poltava region.

In the international university ranking The Impact Rankings 2022, Poltava Polytechnic is among the TOP-10 Ukrainian higher education institutions.

According to the international ranking U-Multirank-2022, Polytechnic is in the TOP-50 of the best universities in Ukraine, taking the 46th position.

We are again the first among Poltava universities and the TOP-50 of Ukraine – 44th position in the International uniRank University Ranking-2022.

Our university continues to actively integrate into the European educational and scientific space – we joined the European Association of Universities.

The university ensured the defence of qualification works and qualification exams for bachelor’s degree graduates. Despite the war, the successful graduation of bachelors in 2022 was ensured – 837 bachelor’s degree students received diplomas.

485 polytechnic graduates successfully defended their master’s theses and are to receive master’s degrees.

It is pleasant to note the fact that despite the war, 5 academic staff members received professorships and 18 received associate professorships!

We held a large number of scientific and practical events and conferences. It is unique that this year our university hosted the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to the 300th anniversary of our outstanding countryman Hryhorii Skovoroda. Under the supervision of the Head of Poltava Regional Military Administration Dmytro Lunin and with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oleksandr Kostiuchenko, we held a historic event. I would like to acknowledge the high organisational skills of our organising committee.

Despite all the challenges of the time, we continued our active cooperation with stakeholders and signed agreements with organisations that help us organise the educational process in new areas, as well as improve our material and technical base, open new powerful locations and develop in all directions.

I thank the team for the high rating indicators of our activities and confident support of the higher education leadership despite the war!

In 2023, we are going to face new challenges. The main one is to bring Ukraine’s victory closer with our daily work.

Our university is a true invincibility centre!

Together to Victory!

Glory to Ukraine!” – said the Rector.

During his speech, Volodymyr Onyshchenko also noted the work of the Volunteer Headquarters of Poltava Polytechnic. Recently, the founder of the University Volunteer Headquarters, Rector’s Advisor on Youth Policy, Polytechnic graduate Artem Loik told about the first steps of the Volunteer Headquarters of Poltava Polytechnic.

Scientists and university staff thanked the Rector and the whole university staff for the thorough report and the successful and efficient activity of this year under his leadership.

After hearing the report, the participants discussed and approved a draft decision, according to which the Rector’s activity was recognised as complying with the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education”, the Law of Ukraine “On Scientific and Technical Activities”, the regulations of MES of Ukraine, the University Statute and the Collective Agreement, and the full implementation of the terms of the Contract with MES of Ukraine, the Collective Agreement, the Statute and the Perspective Development Programme of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” was noted.

At the end of the Staff Conference, the Centre for Culture and Student Creativity congratulated the scientific and pedagogical staff on the end of a hard but productive year and presented their creative projects, such as vocal and theatrical performances that included even a comedy dubbing of a famous cartoon in a new way.

It should be recalled that 16 employees of Poltava Polytechnic were presented with awards from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Recently, we celebrated University Day and the 204th anniversary of Poltava Polytechnic.
