On August 17, 2023, at 3:30 p.m., a webinar will be held on "How to get a Mitacs internship in Canada." The educational event will be interesting for students, postgraduates as well as scientific and pedagogical workers of leading Ukrainian universities.

On August 10, 2023, selection for the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (Mitacs GRI) internship program for 2024 for third- and fourth-year students of Ukrainian universities began. The program covers flights, accommodation, meals, health insurance and a range of activities for applicants. The application deadline is September 21, 2023.

At the webinar, you will learn about Mitacs opportunities for Ukrainians, how interns are selected, how to apply for the program, what the formats of research programs are, and what awaits selected interns in Canada.

During the webinar, two other areas of internship for Ukrainian students and researchers will also be discussed:

● the Mitacs Globalink Research Award (GRA) program, which is intended for Ukrainians studying at a master's, postgraduate, doctoral or postdoctoral level.

● the Mitacs Accelerate program, which allows Ukrainian master's students, postgraduate students, doctoral students, and postdoctoral students to complete a paid internship at a Canadian company.

Mitacs is a Canadian non-profit organization that helps students and researchers from different countries get a unique professional experience in Canada. Mitacs is fully funding 600 research internships for Ukraine during 2022-2024.

The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship Program is an international initiative for international students from Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, Taiwan, Tunisia, Great Britain, the United States and Ukraine for a research internship in Canada.

Ukrainians studying in the 3rd or 4th year of a full-time bachelor's degree can take part in the internship. Each year, from May to September, selected participants complete a 12-week research internship under the guidance of Canadian university professors in a variety of academic disciplines, from engineering, technology and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences.

The internship program is currently available at over 70 Canadian universities. Globalink Research Internship graduates who are interested in returning to Canada to pursue a master’s degree are eligible for the Globalink Graduate Fellowship.

The program includes:

  • working on a joint project with a Canadian university professor (according to your interests, skills and previous experience);
  • Ukraine-Canada and Canada-Ukraine flights;
  • housing and food stipend;
  • medical insurance;
  • enrollment for the internship period at a Canadian university;
  • supporting student mentors on a Canadian university campus;
  • the possibility of attending events, workshops, seminars on professional development;
  • a certificate confirming completion of the Globalink Research Internship program.

All parties participating in Canada's Mitacs Globalink Research Internship Program for Ukraine must adhere to the Canadian university's requirements for research and scholarly ethics in accordance with Mitacs' Research Integrity Policy. Any questions or disputes regarding scientific research or violations of academic integrity will be resolved in accordance with the rules of the university accepting the student for internship.

Main conditions for participation:

Students of various specialties of higher educational institutions in Ukraine:

  • age 18 and older;
  • proficiency of English or French at a conversational level (no exam required);
  • academic average score above 80%;
  • be enrolled in full-time bachelor's degree programs (3rd or 4th year) at universities (full list);
  • graduating from your bachelor’s program between June 2024 and December 2025;
  • be able to come to Canada for a 12-week internship between May 1 and October 30, 2024;
  • be able to return to Ukraine between October 30 and December 31, 2024;
  • foreign passport (valid until January 2025).

Recently, Poltava Polytechnic joined the Bologna hub and is improving the quality of education with the support of European experts.
