Scientists and students of Poltava Polytechnic received awards on the Day of Physical Culture and Sports

On 8 September, the Poltava Academic Music and Drama Theatre named after M.V. Gogol held a celebration for the representatives of the sports elite of the region, coaches, employees of children and youth sports schools, academic staff of the leading educational institutions of Poltava region on the occasion of the Day of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine. The Rector of Poltava Polytechnic, the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports and two students received awards.

Traditionally, on the second Saturday of September, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Physical Culture and Sports, honouring the significant achievements and professional accomplishments of those who, under the Ukrainian blue and yellow flag and the sound of the National Anthem, have won numerous victories in international arenas, those who, by their own example, raise a new generation of winners and demonstrate their own resilience to the world.

The sports elite of Poltava region and their coaches were greeted by Maryna Trokhymenko, Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Oleksii Chepurko, Deputy Head of the Poltava Regional State Administration, and Dmytro Romanov, Head of the Poltava District Military Administration, who wished them vitality, thirst for victory and new personal and professional achievements on the sports Olympus.

"Dear coaches, athletes, sports professionals, fans, and followers of a healthy lifestyle, I congratulate you all on your professional holiday - the Day of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine!

Thanks to our defenders, who are now standing up for our territorial integrity, we have the opportunity to recognise athletes and coaches who win medals of varying levels on the international stage, are peacekeepers and ambassadors of peace, uniting the international sports community in the battle against the aggressor country.

When the flag of Ukraine is raised and the national anthem is played, you realise again that we are a nation of winners. I am sincerely grateful to all the employees of the physical culture and sports industry who create the conditions for athletes to achieve their victorious goals.

I am grateful to the higher education institutions that invest knowledge in the comprehensive development of athletes, to the medical professionals who provide all the necessary care, and to the service staff. 

Special thanks to the deputies of the Poltava Regional State Administration who support the field of physical culture and sports. Thanks to your support, in 2023 Poltava region has already won more than 600 medals at international and national competitions, most of them gold. The region already has 4 licences for the Olympic Games and 1 licence for the World Games.

I want to wish you good health so that in a year's time we can congratulate the winners of the Games on this stage and celebrate our joint Victory!" said Maryna Trokhymenko, Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Poltava Regional Military Administration.

Great respect and gratitude, first of all, to sports veterans who have been sharing their knowledge, skills and techniques with the younger generation of athletes all their lives. Sincere gratitude to the coaches who show by their own example how to reach the peaks of sports. Thanks to your efforts and diligent work, Poltava has a lot to be proud of - champions, winners, and medallists of competitions at various levels.

Of course, the deputies of the Poltava Regional State Administration have always supported and will continue to support sports, because our future lies in a healthy nation.

I wish you and your families good health, and I wish your athletes new enchanting victories in international arenas!" Oleksiy Chepurko, Deputy Chairman of the Poltava Regional State Administration, greeted the participants of the sports and cultural event.

According to the head of the Poltava District Military Administration, Dmytro Romanov, sport has been a thread through his life, and his coaching career has given him the opportunity to observe how people's lives are formed by professional sports, how young boys and girls overcome their self-doubt and become the best in their chosen sport.

During the ceremony, the Rector of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", the Head of the Student Sports Union of Ukraine in Poltava Region and the Head of the Regional Branch of the Ukrainian Federation of Student Sports, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko, was awarded the Poltava Regional Military Administration's Certificate of Appreciation for his personal contribution to the development of student sports in Poltava Region.

Sport is about courage, which means you don't let fear stop you. Ukrainians are the bravest and strongest nation in the world! Poltava athletes are the pride of Ukraine! Happy holiday, unbreakable ones!" the Rector congratulated.

The Poltava Regional Military Administration awarded a certificate of honour for significant personal contribution to the development and promotion of a healthy lifestyle, achievement of high sports results, many years of fruitful professional activity and on the occasion of the Day of Physical Culture and Sports:

  • Lina Rybalko, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Dean of Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic";

  • Valeriia Koniukhova, student of Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", two-time Ukrainian powerlifting champion among girls, gold medallist of the Poltava Region Classic Bench Press Championship;

  • Dariia Holovko, Master student of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", World Junior Powerlifting Champion, Ukrainian Champion and Absolute Bronze IPF Junior Powerlifting Champion.

«Gogolovtsy» theatre presented the athletes with one of the best performances in their repertoire, "Matchmaking in Goncharivka".

On the same day, the President of Ukraine spoke to the students of Poltava Polytechnic and awarded them.

Recently, a professor of Department of Physical Education won the Ukrainian Karate Cup, a student of Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports Nikita Solovey became the European champion in military sports all-around, a student of Polytechnic Veronika Grechana became one of the strongest armwrestlers in the world among juniors, and athletes of Polytechnic became the winners of the World Powerlifting Championship among juniors, young men and girls.

Sixteen employees of the university and the College of Oil and Gas were awarded with the honours of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and two university scientists received parliamentary awards.
