On 2 May 2024, within the framework of the 76th Scientific Conference of Professors, Teachers, Academic Workers, Postgraduates and Students and the 18th All-Ukrainian Science Festival, the annual X International Scientific and Practical Conference “Innovative Technologies in the Context of Foreign Language Training” was held at the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”.
An international scientific and practical conference to discuss topical issues of foreign philology and intercultural communication, innovative methods and technologies of teaching foreign languages in secondary and higher education institutions, as well as aspects of intellectual property was initiated and fully supported by Rector of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Honoured Worker of Education of Ukraine, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, Doctor of Economics, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
The co-organisers of the large-scale scientific and educational event were the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, US Peace Corps in Ukraine, Bialystok University of Technology (Poland), London Metropolitan University (UK), Santa Fe College (USA), State University of São Paulo (Brazil), Higher educational institution “Podillia State University”, National Pedagogical Dragomanov University.
This year, more than 124 scientists joined the large-scale scientific event, with professors and students from the UK, USA, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, India, Canada and Norway sharing their effective practical cases. The conference had a wide representation within Ukraine, with scholars from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kherson, Kryvyi Rih, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Uzhhorod, and Chernihiv joining the discussion.
In total, almost 50 higher education institutions and official partner institutions took part in the scientific event.
The conference was opened by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Work of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Olena Stepova, who greeted all the participants and wished them success, interesting speeches, fruitful discussions, stressing that the topic of learning foreign languages was still relevant even in the time of war.
Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Dean of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of Poltava Polytechnic Anna Aheicheva and PhD, Director of the Ukraine Task Force Programme at Florida State University, USA, Vilma Fuentes also addressed the international academic community with greetings.
Motivational messages were delivered by Response Programme Manager of Technical Support, Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator, US Peace Corps in Ukraine, Zhanna Hrytsenko.
Jan Bamford, Professor of International Higher Education, Head of Student Experience and Academic Outcomes, Co-Director of the Higher Education Research Group (HERG), Honorary Vice President of International Higher Education (COMinG), London Metropolitan University, UK, welcomed the participants.
Dr Amit Kumar Tiwari, Professor at the Dewan Institute of Intellectual Property Rights (Pune, India), wished the participants fruitful presentations and interesting discussions.
Iryna Humeniuk, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Higher educational institution “Podillia State University”, also made a welcoming speech.
Branimir Cvetkovic, Professor, Head of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technologies of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Head of the Oil and Gas Field Development Department of Petro Brelle Energy (Norway), who emphasised the relevance of the topic.
Iryna Lysychkina, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Philology, Translation and Strategic Communications of the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine (Kharkiv), also made a welcoming speech and wished for interesting presentations with discussions.
According to Candidate of Philological Sciences, Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Alla Bolotnikova, the tradition of holding the annual International Scientific and Practical Conference was dictated by the necessity to discuss topical issues of foreign philology and intercultural communication, innovative methods and technologies of teaching foreign languages in secondary and higher education institutions, as well as aspects of intellectual property.
The conference was moderated by Senior Lecturer of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages Yuliia Hunchenko.
The conference participants worked in the following areas:
- Topical issues of foreign philology and translation studies;
- Innovative methods and technologies of teaching foreign languages in higher education institutions;
- Word and text in the cultural space;
- Aspects of intellectual property in the higher education system.
The working languages of the conference were Ukrainian, English, German, French and Polish.
At the plenary session, the participants were interested in the constructive presentation of Liliia Bezuhla, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Professor of the Department of Romano-Germanic Philology of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, “Reproduction of Sound Figures in Ukrainian Translations of Rilke’s Poetry: A linguistic semiotic approach”.
Oksana Khaliman, Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor of the Poltava Professional College NLU Yaroslav Mudryi (Poltava), shared the results of her research in her report “Linguistic Creativity of a Linguistic Personality in the Context of the russian-Ukrainian War (on the Example of the Word Formation Nest with the Top putin)”.
Regiani Aparecida Santos Zacarias, Doctor of Philology, Professor at the University of São Paulo (Brazil), delivered a presentation on “Language Labs: Past and Present”.
Tetiana Kushnirova, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” (Poltava), shared interesting information about the writing style of the famous writer Roald Dahl in her presentation “Play as a Style Constant in Roald Dahl’s Fiction”.
Amit Kumar Tiwari, PhD in Chemistry, Faculty at the Dewan Institute of Intellectual Property Rights (DIIPT) Indian Patent Agent and Senior Patent Associate at R.K. Dewan & Company, Pune, Maharashtra India, spoke about intellectual property protection strategies in his report “Technology Enhanced Language Learning: Innovation and IPR Protection Strategies for Success”.

The collection is included in the international scientometric database Index Copernicus International (Republic of Poland).
At the end of the event, the participants of the conference noted the relevance, high scientific-theoretical, methodological and organisational levels of the international event as well as expressed their sincere gratitude to the management of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and the organising committee of the conference for the professional organisation of the scientific event, as well as to all the participants. The scientists from different countries thanked each other for their joint work, informative answers, active participation in the discussion of the raised issues of the linguistic science development and the high informative level of the presented materials.
It should be recalled that during last year’s conference, philologists exchanged experience in introducing innovative technologies into the process of foreign language training.
Recently, scientists of Poltava Polytechnic together with foreign partners discussed the issues of copyright and intellectual property protection, Poltava Polytechnic joined the “Coalition 1325 Poltava Region” and signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Regional Youth Centre.
