Teachers and students are to compete for the championship at the traditional mini-football tournament “Commonwealth Cup”

On October 10, the official opening of the “Commonwealth Cup” mini-football tournament among picked teams of scientific and pedagogical workers and students of the university took place at the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”. 7 teams of the structural subdivisions of the university will compete for the championship and the cup of the tournament.

The National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” annually holds a traditional mini-football tournament “Commonwealth Cup” among picked teams of scientific and pedagogical workers and students of structural subdivisions of the university. Spectacular matches and bright moments of motor activity on the open sports grounds of the Poltava Polytechnic will be demonstrated by 7 teams of the structural subdivisions of the university.

“Dear contestants, students, teachers and fans! We are pleased to welcome you to the opening of the mini-football tournament “Commonwealth Cup”, which has become a long-standing good tradition of our university. Such tournaments can be safely considered an example of a friendly atmosphere, communication between teachers and student youth, being pleasant social meetings on the football field every Friday. I wish the teams sports enthusiasm, a thirst for victory and a peaceful sky. Glory to Ukraine!” – wished the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Lina Rybalko as well as conveyed the words of congratulations from the Rector of the Poltava Polytechnic, the head of the separate division of the NGO “Student Sports Union of Ukraine” in the Poltava Region, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

This year, 7 teams from the structural subdivisions of the university took part in the tournament:

  • Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law;
  • Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas;
  • Educational and Research Institute of Information Technologies and Robotics;
  • Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management;
  • Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports;
  • Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy;
  • Poltava College of Oil and Gas.

The tournament began with the traditional pledging allegiance to the State Flag to the sounds of the National Anthem of Ukraine and the commemoration of a Minute of Silence for the servicemen of the Armed Forces and civilians who died as a result of the full-scale war on the territory of Ukraine.

The Deputy Head of the Trade Union Organization of University Students and Postgraduates Mykhailo Akopian wished the athletes a beautiful and dynamic game without injuries.

“It is extremely gratifying that this tournament has a long history and is held annually with the aim of popularizing sports and a healthy lifestyle among modern youth. It is worth noting that our university can safely be considered the most athletic institution of higher education in the city of Poltava, since our teachers willingly join the friendly game and inspire university students to new achievements by their own example. I wish you a spectacular game, many successfully scored goals against the opponent and friendly excitement during football matches. Let the strongest win!” – said the Acting President of the Student Parliament of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Valerii Levchenko.

The mini-football tournament “Commonwealth Cup” of 2023 began with a match between the teams of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports and the Educational and Research Institute of Information Technologies and Robotics.

It should be recalled that in 2022, the team of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports won the “Commonwealth Cup” mini-football tournament.

Recently, Poltava Polytechnic cheerleaders became gold and silver medallists of the Poltava City Open Championship, Polytechnic students won the World Football Championship among athletes with hearing impairments, and Poltava Polytechnic student Mykhailo Serdiuk became the world champion in Thai boxing.

Earlier, the regional table tennis championship was held at the university, and the XIX Universiade of the Poltava region has started.
