The President of Ukraine awards the orders of Paralympic champions – graduates and students of the Polytechnic

On September 17, the President met with representatives of the National Paralympic Team of Ukraine and presented state awards to athletes for their achievements. Graduates and students of Poltava Polytechnic, who are champions of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020, were awarded the Orders of Merit and the Medal of Labor and Victory.

The 16th Summer Paralympic Games were held in Tokyo from August 24 to September 5, 2021. About 4,400 athletes from 162 participating countries competed in 22 sports for 539 sets of awards, which are 11 sets more than in previous games.

Students and graduates of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, as well as a separate structural unit of the university – Poltava College of Oil and Gas, have made a significant contribution to the treasury of awards of the Ukraine national team.

For significant personal contribution to the development of the Paralympic movement, achievement of high sports results at the 16th Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo (Japan), dedication and will to win, strengthening of Ukraine’s international prestige by Decree №470/2021 “On State Awards of Ukraine” President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi awarded:

with Order of Merit of the 1st Class

BOHODAIKO Yevhenii – champion and bronze medalist in swimming

with Order of Merit of the 3d Class

VIRCHENKO Oleksii – silver medalist in swimming

MAI Ivan – two-time bronze medalist in table tennis

OSTAPCHENKO Denys – champion, silver and bronze medalist in swimming

with Medal of Labor and Victory

BOZHYNSKYI Yurii – bronze medalist in swimming

The President noted that the Paralympic team is the pride of the country; it includes people with superpowers who see their goal and do not see the obstacles that stand in their way.

“Your soul is your strength. You are record holders, you are supermen. You have no flaws, you have superpower. You don't see just obstacles, you see goals. You do not hear the malice of someone out there, some critics, but you listen to the voice of your heart. You are not standing on your feet, you are not standing still, but you are moving forward! You have shown that when Ukrainians start something on August 24, it will be a great success,” – said Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

For the Day of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine, the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” awarded Paralympic graduates with the titles of Honorary Masters, and students – with thanks and gifts. The head of the All-Ukrainian public organization “Student Sports Union of Ukraine”, public association “Ukrainian Federation of Student Sports”, rector of Poltava Polytechnic, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko also noted that the names of champions who glorify the university and Ukraine at the international level are included in the book of honor of Poltava Polytechnic “Pride of the University”.

It will be recalled that the Poltava mayor Oleksandr Mamai presented Paralympians who won 10 medals of various grades with certificates for monetary awards. Also the head of the Poltava regional state administration Oleh Syniehubov with the support of the Poltava regional council awarded champions with prizes.
