The President of Ukraine notes the significant achievements of students and graduates of the University – champions and medallists of the 2024 Paralympic Games

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with the representatives of the National Paralympic Team and presented state awards, noting the significant achievements of the champions and prize-winners of the XVIII Summer Paralympic Games in Paris. Students and graduates of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” were among the awardees.

From 28 August to 8 September 2024, the XVIII Summer Paralympic Games were held in Paris, France, with athletes from all over the world who demonstrated excellent physical results, high-quality training and a thirst for victory.

Our country was represented at the 2024 Paralympic Games by 138 athletes competing in 17 sports. For the sixth time, Ukraine entered the TOP-10 and finished in seventh place, and in total, Ukrainian para athletes won 82 medals – 22 gold, 28 silver and 32 bronze.

The students and graduates of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” made a significant personal contribution to the Ukrainian national team’s medal tally.

According to the Decree of President of Ukraine No. 635/2024 “On Awarding the Members of the National Team of Ukraine at the XVII Summer Paralympic Games 2024 with the State Awards of Ukraine”, for their high sports results at the XVII Summer Paralympic Games in Paris (French Republic), their dedication and will to win, as well as for establishing the international authority:

The Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, V degree, was awarded to the following:

  • Yevhenii Bohodayko, a graduate of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, champion of the XVII Summer Paralympic Games in 2024 in swimming;

The Order of Merit, First Class, was awarded to the following:

  • Yaroslav Denysenko, a graduate of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, champion of the XVII Summer Paralympic Games in swimming in 2024;

The Order of Merit, Second Class, was awarded to the following:

  • Oleksii Virchenko, a student of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, champion and bronze medallist in parasailing;
  • Denys Ostapchenko, a 2024 graduate of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas, champion of the XVII Summer Paralympic Games in swimming in 2024;

The Order of Merit, Third Class, was awarded to the following:

  • Vasyl Oliinyk, a graduate of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, silver medallist of the 17th Summer Paralympic Games in 2024 in goalball;
  • Yurii Shenhur, a student of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law, champion of the XVII Summer Paralympic Games in 2024 in swimming.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi also recognised the Paralympic coaches and awarded them honorary titles.

For their significant personal contribution to the development of the Paralympic movement, training of international athletes, and achievement of high sports results by the Ukrainian National Paralympic Team at the XVII Summer Paralympic Games in 2024:

The Order of Merit, Second Class, was awarded to the following:

  • Illia Kalaida, personal coach of Yevhenii Bohodayko, Oleksii Virchenko, Yaroslav Denysenko, Denys Ostapchenko, Yurii Shenhur;

Order of Merit, Third Class, was awarded to the following:

  • Halyna Boiko, personal coach of Yevhenii Bohodaiko, Denys Ostapchenko, Yurii Shenhur;

The Medal For Labour and Victory was awarded to the following:

  • Anton Dubrovin, goalball coach.

According to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Ukraine is extremely proud of the Paralympic athletes, as they have once again shown the world that Ukrainians are a nation of strong people with an unwavering desire to win.

“Your victories have once again proved that our people are able to overcome absolutely all obstacles and difficulties, they are able to fight and win like no other,” – said the Head of State, thanking the athletes for their strength and ability to be above the circumstances.

“I sincerely thank our entire team of Ukraine – each and every person who works with the national team, who helps and supports. I thank your families, each coach, all of you,” – stressed Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

Earlier, the President of Ukraine talked to the students of Poltava Polytechnic and awarded them.

Recently, International Day of University Sport was celebrated at Poltava Polytechnic with a student flash mob and sports activities.

It should be recalled that a student of Polytechnic Yurii Shenhur successfully made his debut at Paralympics 2024, winning a gold medal in swimming, students of Poltava Polytechnic became gold and bronze medallists of Paralympics 2024, and a graduate of Polytechnic won a bronze medal of Paralympics 2024.
