The importance of our self-identification as Ukrainians covers an infinitely large number of aspects, one of which is the naming of toponyms, which are actively changing names with the aim of purposeful de-russification of the historical and cultural space of Ukraine.
It is for this reason that the student body of Yuri Kondratyuk National University held an extended meeting of student self-government bodies, initiated and unanimously supported the Academic Council's decision to rename Pershotravnevyi Avenue to University Avenue in the city of Poltava. At the meeting, the students decided to send an appeal to the city authorities. This initiative pleasantly impressed the workforce of the Poltava Polytechnic.
Each of us understands the importance of this renaming, which has a number of important components – historical, linguistic-cumulative, utilitarian-navigational and, finally, fundamental-axiological (value), because the new name is designed to affirm education and science as the cornerstone values of Ukraine, and Poltava – as a powerful center of these cultural realms with a several-hundred-year-old tradition, as well as a youth student city that has brilliant prospects both in terms of its own progress and to ensure a significant contribution to the recovery and development of Ukraine after the Victory.
We support the Ukrainian! Together to Victory!
