The competition is held in 3 stages and consists of 9 rounds, and the results will be included in the national and international ranking of players. From December 1 till December 5, classic chess rounds will take place. The main judge of the competition is the President of the Poltava Regional Chess Federation Hryhorii Shcherbov.
"It is extremely pleasant to see athletes who will compete for the title of the best in such an intellectual sport. This is a sport that helps to succeed in life, so I also love playing chess. The Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports has been actively working on the basis of the university for several years now as well as proper conditions have been created, including those aiming at conducting high-level tournaments. We are pleased that today chess players of different generations have gathered in the sports club of Poltava Polytechnic. This means that this unique sport combines both youth and experience," – congratulated the participants the rector of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", head of the separate units of the "Sports Student Union of Ukraine" and the NGO "Ukrainian Federation of Student Sports" in Poltava region, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
Head of the Department of Youth and Sports of Poltava Regional State Administration Maryna Trokhymenko expressed full support for the initiatives of the regional chess federation.
"Chess is actually one of the few sports where age and weight limits are erased, and people can compete intellectually. I wish the children success and achievement of their goal, and I ask the older generation to share their knowledge and experience with young people," – wished the Head of the Department of Youth and Sports of Poltava Regional State Administration.
Many years ago, "Endevour" company chose to support chess, in particular, to popularize this sport among children, as part of corporate social responsibility. The company has been sponsoring this tournament for 10 years.
"It is very gratifying that different generations play chess and we do our best to ensure that as many children as possible are involved in this sport. I thank the organizers for holding such intellectual competitions in our country and a special word of thanks to Poltava Polytechnic for supporting this sport. I wish the participants good combinations and successful games!" – spoke at the opening of the competition Dmytro Prokhorenko, a business development manager of "Endevour", a graduate of Poltava Polytechnic University.
The tournament will last from December 1 to December 7 at the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic". The competitions are held according to the unified calendar plan of physical, recreational and sports events of Poltava region with the support of the Chairman of the Poltava Regional Council Oleksandr Bilenkyi, and the main sponsor of the competition – oil service engineering company "Endevour" (director – Dmytro Piddubnyi).
Recently, the winners of the Gymnasiade of Poltava in classical chess were awarded.
