In the autumn semester of the academic year 2024/2025, three students of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law of Poltava Polytechnic, namely, second-year student of the study programme “Economic Cybernetics and Analytical Economics” Daria Shurduk, fourth-year student of the speciality “Entrepreneurship, Exchange Activities and Trade”, Bohdana Kurylo, and a second-year student majoring in “International Economic Relations” Maryna Kostenko are studying under the Erasmus+ credit academic mobility programme at the University of Applied Sciences of Burgenland (Austria) – University of Applied Sciences FACHHOCHSCHULE BURGENLAND in Eisenstadt (the administrative centre of Burgenland, Austria).
The participants of the mobility shared their impressions of studying and living in the city, which is famous not only for its rich history and cultural heritage, in particular thanks to the Esterházy princes, but also for its famous musical traditions, as it was here that the famous composer Joseph Haydn lived and worked for a long time, leaving his mark on the development of classical music:
“We are currently studying at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland, Austria, and living in Eisenstadt, where we have been greeted with great hospitality and warmth. It’s a small town, but with friendly people who are always willing to help, and beautiful scenery, including the beautiful mountains around. We live in a modern dormitory, which is located right opposite the university, which is very convenient for us.
Here we study under the “International Business” programme, where we improve our knowledge of economics, business, management and communications. We study such disciplines as: “Organisational development”, “Sustainable business models”, “Business management” and others. The learning system is different from what we are used to at home: one lecture can last from 3 to 5 hours, and sometimes classes are held on Saturdays. However, learning here is exciting – it is based on a large number of team tasks, which makes the process interactive and diverse.
Students from more than 13 countries study with us under the Erasmus+ programme. We are extremely pleased to meet representatives of different nationalities, which has allowed us to get to know their culture and traditions better, developing intercultural relations. In addition to our studies, our lives are very busy: we have a great opportunity to travel around Austria and visit other countries. In less than two months, we have participated in numerous events, excursions and visited many cities and countries. One of the most exciting days was the “Museum Night”, during which we went to Vienna with other students and visited several museums, such as the Natural History Museum, the Leopold Museum and the Vienna Planetarium.
The university has also arranged an excursion to the Austrian Parliament, where we learnt about the electoral processes and economic development of the Austrian states. Every week, the university hosts various events, including sports days, business communication seminars, and others. Last week, we celebrated “Erasmus Days 2024”, where students from each country had the opportunity to present traditional dishes from their countries. We proudly represented Ukraine, treating everyone to Poltava halushky, telling them about the history of our country and current events related to the war.
We are sincerely grateful to Poltava Polytechnic for the opportunity to study under the Erasmus+ credit academic mobility programme. This is a great chance for self-realisation, development of professional skills and gaining invaluable experience that will help us develop our university and our hometown in the future. We are looking forward to the end of the war to invite our foreign friends to Poltava Polytechnic and show them the beauty of our city!” – said the students.
