From 6 to 12 May 2024, the 28th International Conference ICAMES 2024 (International Cultural and Academic Meeting of Engineering Students) was held in Istanbul, during which more than 80 scientists from fourteen countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America shared their own achievements in the field of engineering education “Renewable Energy”.

As part of the event, third-year students of speciality 191 Architecture and Urban Planning of Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Maryna Makukha and Sofiia Hrosheva presented their English-language project “Renewable energy of Ukraine during martial law”, which was evaluated by the international professional jury according to the following criteria: scientific and technical level of work, originality, quality of presentation and demonstration of the work done.

The students of speciality 185 Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology of Poltava College of Oil and Gas of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Ihor Skliar, Dmytro Kulichkovskyi and Bohdan Lutchenko, who together with the lecturer of Poltava College of Oil and Gas Liudmyla Firsunina prepared interesting projects, also shared their own experience with the world academic community.

According to the participants of the large-scale international scientific and educational event, the most important task for each of the speakers was to convey to the world community the facts that clearly demonstrate the high level of danger of russia’s military aggression against Ukraine at the political, economic, human rights and environmental levels.

“Since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as well as the further ruthless actions of the aggressor state, our nation has faced serious challenges in the energy sector that require urgent rational solutions. Therefore, in our project, we considered the optimal and renewable energy sources that will allow consumers to feel independent from external circumstances and significantly minimise costs, while having a positive impact on the environment. Since the destruction of housing infrastructure is also quite acute for our country today, we offer a comprehensive optimal solution for its restoration with the simultaneous introduction of energy-efficient technologies,” – says Maryna Makukha, an architectural student.

The rich programme of the international event included many interesting locations, workshops and excursions to the sights of the Turkish capital. The participants enjoyed communicating with young people from around the world, were inspired by the cultures of the participating countries, and discussed the issues that are currently most relevant in the world.

It should be noted that ICAMES (International Cultural and Academic Meeting of Engineering Students) is an international academic, scientific and cultural competition project held annually by the Engineering Society (ENSO) of Bogazici University with the support of the university administration, the dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council (TUBITAK). The competition also included a variety of social activities, such as a campus day, a cultural evening, a Turkish night, a historical tour of Istanbul, project presentations in English, etc.

Recently, a Polytechnic scientist presented cases of training tourism industry specialists at a Tourism and Museum Forum, the university team won the All-Ukrainian Financial Literacy Tournament “KharkivFinCup 2024”, and the scientist improved her financial management skills by receiving training from TG Consulting.
