On August 29, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine, who died in the struggle for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The academic staff of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” honored the memory of the deceased with a minute of silence and laying flowers to the memorial plaques of the fallen defenders – a graduate of the university, a soldier of the “Azov” regiment Dmytro Koriak and a student of the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management, grenade launcher of the 72-th separate mechanized brigade named after the Black Zaporozhets Maksym Khitailov.

“According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi of 2019, on August 29, the Ukrainian nation honors the memory of its brave sons and daughters, defenders of Ukraine, who died in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state. We perpetuate the heroism of servicemen and volunteers who gave their lives for their homeland as a reminder of one of the bloodiest events of the war in eastern Ukraine – the Ilovaisk tragedy.

Currently, it is the 187th day of our state’s war with the brutal russian hydra, and our nation is passing the greatest test in its recent history – the armed struggle for freedom, independence and territorial integrity. In the difficult conditions of a terrible war, our defenders are writing a new history of a renewed independent state, and every day we witness important victories as well as personal achievements.

We bow our heads in front of the lost young lives, the courage and endurance of those who voluntarily took up arms and went to defend the Motherland.

Heroes do not die – they are forever in our memory, remaining as our spiritual guides and role models. Let’s save their names in history, thanking them for every new day of our lives.

Eternal memory! Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!” – noted the rector of the university, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

Earlier, the university community commemorated the victims of the Second World War and the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.
