University honors the memory of the deceased student Maksym Khitailov

On February 18, the day of the sad anniversary, the staff of Poltava Polytechnic honored the memory of Maksym Khitailov, a student of the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Construction and Land Management who died two years ago. Students and scientists laid flowers at the memorial plaque of the fallen Hero.

Lecturers, administration, students and cadets of the Department of Military Training gathered to honor the bright memory of the student of the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Construction and Land Management, grenade launcher of the 72nd separate mechanized brigade named after Black Cossacks Maksym Khitailov. Scientists from the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Construction and Land Management reminded of a young man with a big heart.

"It is a pity that we are losing the best ones. This loss is another incurable wound on the body of the Ukrainian people, none of us can be indifferent to the death of a young man whose life was cut short on the highest note, whose dreams of a bright future were not destined to come true. Let’s preserve the memory of Maksym as a kind, sincere boy, a good student who studied well and was a devoted patriot of his native country. After all, he fulfilled his duty to the Motherland, protecting us. So he was, so he is, so he will remain forever in the hearts of everyone who knew him. The university has included the name of the Hero in the Book of Honor. Heroes do not die – they live in our hearts! " – said the rector of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

The deceased was honored with a minute of silence and flowers were laid at the memorial plaque on the facade of the university.

Maksym Khitailov was born on October 7, 1997, in Velyka Znamianka, Kamianka-Dniprovska District, Zaporizhzhia region. He grew up and lived in Vyrishalne, Lokhvytsia District, Poltava region. In 2017, Maksym Khitailov graduated from M. V. Hohol Myrhorod Art and Industrial College of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and entered the university thereafter. He studied at the expense of the state budget in Construction and Civil Engineering (group 301BTp).

He decided to serve at the Military Forces of Ukraine and was accepted for military service under a contract in April 2019 as a grenade launcher. He served in the 72nd separate mechanized brigade named after the Black Cossacks. He died on February 18, 2020 near the village of Vilnyi, Luhansk region, while covering the retreat of injured comrades and deterring the attack of enemy assault groups on the brigade's observation point.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi posthumously awarded Maksym Khitailov with the Order for Courage of the III Degree by the Decree No. 93/2020 "On Awarding State Awards of Ukraine” of March 18.

On August 25, 2020, a memorial plaque to Maksym Khitailov was unveiled on the facade of the university and his name and biography are entered in the Book of Honor, which is stored in the National Museum of History of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic".

Earlier, the Polytechnic University celebrated Unity Day with a solemn rally and patriotic flash mob, Polytechnic students honored the memory of participants in hostilities in other states, and the university honored the memory of the deceased graduate Dmytro Koriak.
